I don’t normally write reviews but this experience was so horrendous that I thought it was necessary. I am a current Lexus owner who has been interested in testing a LC 500 Coupe for some time. During one of horrendous that I thought it was necessary. I am a current Lexus owner who has been interested in testing a LC 500 Coupe for some time. During one of my nightly internet searches I noticed that Koons Lexus of Wilmington had an LC listed on their website. Using the built in web utility I contacted them asking to schedule a test drive of the LC and if possible, an IS 350 F Sport. The next morning (Thursday) a rep called me to schedule the appointment and asked if I was okay with a black LC with a black interior. When I said that was fine we set an appointment for Saturday 3/19/2022 at 11 am and I received a text confirmation. On Saturday morning I received a call from someone at the dealer trying to set up an appointment stating that they had a special deal going on. I told the gentleman that I already had an appointment and he said he would check. However, this made me a bit nervous so before heading out I called the dealer to make sure that the appointment was okay. It takes 45-50 minutes for me to get there and I wanted to make sure that it was alright, especially as I had recently had an LC sold out from under me at anther dealer. The young lady on the phone told me that the appointment was fine so I set out. When I arrived at the dealer I went to the reception desk and the lady there went through several people before a salesman was brought over and introduced. We went into an office and he asked me about what I was interested in and my contact information. I answered his questions and told him that I was there to test drive the LC 500. He then told me that there is no LC 500 available or for sale at all. It turns out that even though the website lists an LC and says “Only 1 left!” (and still does at the time of this writing) the LC is not for sale but belongs to the General Manager who allows customers to test drive it. Apparently, he receives cars from the dealer and drives them for a year or two before they are sold as used vehicles. There was no apology of any kind and perhaps I should have turned around right then, but I had driven 45 minutes to get there and didn’t want to spite myself so I asked if I could test drive an IS 350 F Sport. He said that they might have a loaner car I could test and would I mind waiting? I answered yes and he went to check. After around fifteen to twenty minutes of sitting alone in an office, a lady approached me and introduced herself as a manager of some kind (Kim I believe). We had a short discussion that mirrored the earlier one, again no apology, just a request about looking into my trade-in value which I declined. “Kim” left and I spent another ten or fifteen minutes alone thinking over the situation. The upshot was that I pulled “Kim” aside and told her that I was leaving and did not want to look at a car. She said, “so you are definitely only interested in the LC then?” I said no, I was leaving because I had come there with an appointment to look at a car. I had even called ahead to make sure the appointment was good, only to arrive and find that what I had been told did not reflect reality. Such being the case I did not want to work with them and there was no point in wasting any more time. She said that she was sorry I felt that way and asked who I had talked to on the phone. That’s it, no real apology at all. Just a platitude such as I would tell an employee who wants a two hour lunch break. Sorry I felt that way, not sorry that I had been lied to, not sorry that I had wasted time and money, just sorry that it bothered me and now she might have a customer complaint. However, I did not say any of this, instead I simply said I didn’t know who I had talked to but it sounded like one of the people at the front desk. She tried to run some cover by saying that it might not have been an employee because they use a third party to answer phones if it takes too long to pick up. Well, it picked up immediately, and even if it didn’t so what? You are responsible for your contractors. Contracting out your dishonesty and/or incompetence does not change the fact that ultimately, you are dishonest and/or incompetent. Its a shame really, my parents purchased a car from this dealer a number of years ago and raved about the service. Guess it’s gone downhill. This is certainly the last time anyone I know so much as walks into this or any other Koons dealership. P.S. While talking with the salesman I noticed a personal file sitting on the table next to me. While I did not read it, the sales man noticed, said it shouldn’t be there and put it into what appeared to be an unlocked drawer. These offices are open and a very large staff mills about paying no apparent attention. Anyone walking by, and this is in a city, could walk in here and pick files up. Just something to think about if you are considering purchasing a vehicle here. More
