I came in to purchase a used vehicle with decent value as I had recently had a bankruptcy and was looking to reestablish my credit profile. I expected that as a result of this I would not get the most favorable loan terms, and having worked personally in banking for years, understood and accepted this fact. To start with, the entire process would be better, faster and easier if I had to deal with zero sales people since it is blatantly obvious from the start of any interaction that their only intention is close close close at any cost at maximum benefit to them. I had the car I wanted picked out ahead of time because I’m smart enough to navigate a website and review my options before I arrive. I didn’t need to be sold on the vehicle, I just needed assistance setting up the loan. It’s obvious that the sales team exists only to close sales and not to educate on the features of the car or the best financing options in any meaningful way. Case in point, i candidly and directly explained my bankruptcy scenario to the employees present. They explained that the loan terms would be less favorable, which I expected, but came back with a financing option that included an APR of 18%. It was all I could manage to not laugh in their faces as I explained that I would not be agreeing to that under any circumstances. The sales manager attempted to impress upon me that this was normal for post bankruptcy applicants, particularly when vehicles have been included in the debt write off. Having worked in the finance industry and knowing this to be misleading at BEST, I politely told him I’d rather buy a car for $3k outright than agree to that ridiculous of a loan. They then proceeded to pretend to call in favors and conduct other meaningful business on my behalf and voila, suddenly there was an option to finance through Capital One at 8%. As a leader of a sales team, this says to me that your employees are paid higher payouts on a commission basis for larger cumulative loan amounts, indicating that the team should always try to close the least favorable terms to the consumer first in an attempt to gain as much personally as possible before negotiating to more reasonable terms only if needed to salvage the impending loss of a sale. I found this to be interesting and stated as such because I knew from my bankruptcy case that I had charged an account off with Capital One and being a leader in a financial institution, I know that institutions seldom lend to individuals with charged off balances without having recouped the loss first. They attempted to explain away this obvious fact by saying Nick had “called in a favor” because he knows a guy and not to worry about it. All the while my primary sales rep continuously impressed upon me that we needed to close the sale as soon as possible so it could be completed in time to count toward end of the month numbers. Why would I possibly care about end of the month numbers if my primary concern is making the right decision for myself? We agreed to the deal and I asked to inspect the vehicle again before I left to ensure there were no issues. It’s definitely a good thing I made that request because there was a very noticeable crack in the front bumper that by all indications would’ve went completely unaddressed had I not pointed it out. This then added multiple days to the timeline before I could take possession of the vehicle. In the interim time that it took to repair the crack, I was contacted and reminded that I needed to come in ASAP to sign the paperwork so end of the month numbers could be met. I was literally texted by three different people for this purpose. At that time it was explained to me that in fact Capital One would not be the lender and it would be Wells Fargo at an allegedly lower rate, indicating to me that either the initial claim of calling in a favor with Capital One was an outright lie or the sales team didn’t have any interest in obtaining the most favorable terms from the beginning. Probably both. Nonetheless, we completed the paperwork despite numerous expletive filled interruptions from miserable and complaining staff throughout the process. We agreed that the team would include all season floor mats that would have to be ordered and would contact me once they arrived for pickup in a few days. Literally 3 weeks went by and I reached out to the dealership to check on the status of said floor mats. I was contacted back by Nick in service and told via voicemail that they were ready for pickup. Consequently, I drove to the dealership to retrieve them and was treated as if I was speaking Latin on arrival. Nick must have called the wrong person the individual at the parts window stated despite my explanation that he was returning a call about my specific inquiry so that was highly unlikely. We would have to order the floor mats and they would arrive in 2-3 days I was told. Lol, sure. I contacted the main sales office again and spoke with Rachel. I explained that I had been told to come pickup my floor mats and then subsequently told that they were not there when I arrived in person, could she please get clarification. She indicated that she could connect me with service or voicemail as the department was currently busy and someone could contact me back. While I appreciated this, I explained that I had just spoken to them in person and was not interested in speaking with them again. I just would like to know what caused the disconnect between what I was told initially and what I was told on arrival. Since my initial Inquiry about the mats had been routed through a woman, and it seems like this company only hires and allows women to answer the phones, I presumed it may have been Rachel herself who took the call and may be familiar with the situation. She stated “sure, let me check on that for you” and proceeded to send me to the voicemail I had just asked not to be sent to. So, overall I’d say 0/10 wouldn’t recommend this place to someone just based off the predatory, unprofessional, disorganized and sexist practices witnessed throughout my experience, no matter how desperate they may be. I worked with Cameron in sales, Nick in financing, Nick in management and Nick in Service, but I’m rating your entire management staff as low as possible because I’m 100 percent certain based on my experience that when you’re not sitting in front of a pristinely qualified applicant, these issues are systemic in the organization. We’ll see if the floor mats actually come in, or if anyone actually calls me to let me know they came in, or follows up in any meaningful way when it doesn’t benefit their sales numbers. All indications are, these aren’t things this company cares about. Instead, it’s a circus run by clowns. More
