Basically what you think you’ll get used car shopping The first trade in offer on my 2011 pilot was $3,000. Numbers all worked up on their worksheet, payment laid out ....what?? No way - trade in value ne The first trade in offer on my 2011 pilot was $3,000. Numbers all worked up on their worksheet, payment laid out ....what?? No way - trade in value needs to at least double I suggested. Next offer was $5,000. Better, but still not enough. I suggested I’d take $5,500 and sign now for a deal on the car I was there to buy. $5,250 was “the best” offer I got on my trade ...so I left. Looked up info that night and confirmed my trade should be worth much more. Popped into Kia, across the street The next morning, and instantly got an offer of $6,500, with no negotiating! No questions asked ...didn’t even look at it - said that’s what the wholesaler told them it was worth. Please remind me again how I was offered $3,000 at Hyundai? Then, I rode down to CarMax...feel free to learn how that works if you don’t already know...and BOOM. $7,000 cash in hand. Came back to buy the (new to me) car outright at that point, and even after calling ahead by an hour and a half to let them know I was coming, I still had to wait 2 and a half hours after I got there. Some people exaggerate about how long they wait for things, but check the cameras (12/31/19 from 3:10pm until after 5:30p). I know it was busy - but come on! Anything thrown my way for the huge inconvenience? Not really. Couple of “Sorry for the wait” apologies (thanks). Not even an offer to buy me a snack out of the vending machine. Anyway ...my car seems good, and people there were fine. No complaints about them, but overall this was a so-so experience at very best. More
