I want to say up front that I've had nothing but good experiences with McGrath of Elgin's service department. They've always completed work in a timely manner and have never been pushy about add-ons. The sales department, however, is another story. We purchased a new Honda from this dealership a few years ago, and that process was not great, mostly due to a lack of pricing transparency. The only reason we ended up buying the vehicle was that when we finally got a price out of them, it ended up being better than any other dealer in the area. Sadly, their sales practices don't seem to have improved in the intervening years. Recently, I was interested in a Certified Pre-Owned Honda that they had. The salesman was pleasant, and the test drive good. However, when we got down to pricing, there was a $2,000 "reconditioning fee" that was not disclosed up front, and they severely low-balled my trade-in. I walked away from the deal and ended up purchasing elsewhere. More
