So, the typical review is so and so was friendly and helpful. 5 stars. And that's true so far as it goes. Of course, you can get a smile from the barista at the coffee shop each morning if friendly a helpful. 5 stars. And that's true so far as it goes. Of course, you can get a smile from the barista at the coffee shop each morning if friendly and helpful is your thing, and that comes with a cup of coffee and a bear claw, which has great utility for the few bucks it sets you back. For the 50-150K a Mercedes is gonna set you back they should be able to do a little better than a smile as they take your money, but alas that really is the best they can do. Having spent months (plural) in the service shop (with 20K on the odometer and less than 2 years of owning my new car purchase) I could mention any number of frustrating moments, but I'll go with the last two. One of the key fobs stopped working. Wouldn't turn the car on/off any longer. What was a really simple fix - replace the key fob - turned into a three day adventure as the service department had to "recreate" the issue before replacing the key fob. Why anyone would go through the hassle of dropping their car off to swap out a perfectly good key fob for another perfectly good key fob is beyond my comprehension, but alas, three days. One more point is worth making. I purchased a tire protection plan when I bought the vehicle, and recently had a tire blow out. Instead of doing the right thing and honoring the tire warranty/insurance, they tried to claim it was "wear and tear" and not covered. This was patently absurd, as other tires on the car had the same exact life span as this one and none of them were so much as recommended for replacement due to "wear and tear." After arguing with the service agent they finally relented and accepted the claim. Our argument was contentious, not because I have anything personal against anyone there but because after two years of being treated like an idiot at every pass by this dealership (and keeping my thoughts to myself instead of sharing a review like this) I had had enough. Wear and tear. On just one tire. How about 'we're glad no one was hurt when the tire blew, we'll take care of replacing it and of course its covered under the plan we sold you, the one where the salesperson said if a tire blows out you're covered.' Nope, not covered. Because at Mercedes Benz of Hilton Head we think all our customers are stupid and should be treated as such. When I came into the dealership today to get the car I was calm and professional and waited patiently the hour it took to get the car ready. I didn't give anyone a hard time, though they thoroughly had earned one, and was ready to drive away and let the past be the past. But as I was literally stepping into the car the service agent decided this would be a good time to confront me about my treatment of them. Newsflash, when I pay Mercedes Benz prices and get Yugo value the onus isn't on me to make the people at Mercedes Benz feel special, the onus is on the people at Mercedes Benz to make the problems right. Save yourself the trouble and go someplace else. More
