Friendly staff, car somewhat disappointing I was looking for a used car under $10K with under 40K miles. After visiting CARMAX and Wedekind Motors and finding no cars meeting my needs, I took I was looking for a used car under $10K with under 40K miles. After visiting CARMAX and Wedekind Motors and finding no cars meeting my needs, I took a chance on the Metro Ford dealership and found an attractive gray used Ford Fiesta sedan with only 25K miles that looked intriguing. Victoria set me up with Vince (who quickly arranged a test drive). The car space seemed a bit tight, but it handled well, felt like new, and the attractive price was compelling. So I decided to buy the vehicle right away. While the car price was under $10K, my full cost (after extended warranty, undercoating, and taxes) was around $13K. JT was helpful with the financing and add-ons, but I felt I paid a little bit too much for the vehicle. Nevertheless, I felt reasonably satisfied with my purchase on that Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and I was looking forward to picking up the vehicle on the following Tuesday. Unfortunately, I wish I'd done my homework on the Ford Fiesta before committing to purchase one. I belatedly checked out some reviews on the web and was sorry to discover that it ranks low on reliability and seating space. There are plenty of subcompact cars with rankings better than the Fiesta (e.g. Honda Fit, Chevy Sonic, etc.). I mentioned my buyer's remorse to Vince when completing the paperwork on Tuesday night. I tried to find out if I had any options for backing out of the deal, but empathy from Vince and Victoria was somewhat lacking. They were polite and friendly (and generous with bottled water during my visits), but failed to volunteer any alternative suggestions (e.g. switching to a new Ford Focus, etc.). I should've been more assertive, but I politely let the disappointing sale come to its conclusion. In retrospect, I should have gone home after the initial test drive and given myself more time to decide objectively whether or not the Ford Fiesta sedan was the right vehicle for me. I'm absolutely certain that I would NOT have purchased the car after reading its lukewarm reviews, but it's my fault for jumping the gun. I do wish that Vince had shown me some other cars to give me a better frame of reference, but I must admit that the used Ford Fiesta looked good on the sales lot (mostly due to price), so I allowed my tunnel vision to lead me into an ill-advised premature purchase. Now that I've owned this car and driven it around for a few days, it's starting to grow on me. While the Fiesta is a disappointment relative to most of its subcompact competitors, it is a significant improvement over my old rusted out 2000 Saturn SC1 with 150,000 miles and AC problems. It's nice to drive a relatively new vehicle with good AC and decent acceleration. I'm still struggling to get in and out of the front seat (due to an extremely short front door that makes me feel like I'm crawling out of the back seat with my 6 foot frame), but I'm adjusting. Wish I could say that I'm thrilled with my experience at Metro Ford, but a more accurate description would be somewhat disappointed. The people there are nice, and the dealership is clean and professional, but I wish they would have steered me away from the Fiesta. I would have appreciated an honest warning about the Fiesta's not-so-great ranking, but I guess you can't expect a Ford salesperson to talk trash about a Ford model vehicle. Vince nicely volunteered (without my asking) to set up my smartphone to work with the car's speakers via Bluetooth. This was generous (although I needed further handholding to make it work). Vince wasn't quite so helpful when I asked him for assistance in plugging my Allstate DriveWise device into the Fiesta's car computer port. I finally figured it out on my own. Anyway, I wish the folks at Metro Ford Schenectady well. I am driving a newer car that's in much better shape than my trade-in. I just wish I felt better about the purchase. More
