So I called about a vehicle for $30,874 listed on Autotrader; on their own website said vehicle was listed for $31,874. So I questioned five people (not in this same phone call because there were, I Autotrader; on their own website said vehicle was listed for $31,874. They said come down let’s talk about it, etc. I said I’d prefer to complete the transaction via phone. The manager, after much pressure from me, finally told me $450 for a doc fee, I said fine, so can I expect that plus the advertised price to be the total price? For the fifth time hemming and hawing and interrupting me every time I spoke, she said there would be fees for nitrogen in the tires, paint protection (no specifying Brand or why this would be necessary), GPS device, anti-theft device, and window tint. I mentioned that if I wanted any of these extraneous features I’d bring the car to the appropriate service provider and take care of it. She claimed she didn’t have access to the breakdown of these costs (manager, remember). The costs were not itemized for me but she said again for different cars $1,999 to $2,999. Remember I am referring to this one car I was interested in, not any others. So even with the knowledge it is for this specific car, she still refused to disclose itemization for the above extras. Nobody until this time would admit to all these extraneous, unnecessary charges. My conversation with Mike (nonexistent) salesman was pretty similar no straight forward information given. He also interrupted me repeatedly, and told me he’d have somebody else call me back, he didn’t have time to talk to me. Without informing, me he transferred me to a “Manager” by the name of Marcy who also interrupted me and would not address the questions I posed. She also said she had no salesperson by the name of Mike. Many times after all the interruptions I had to raise my voice and insist on having my questions answered. Then she said I was yelling - when the only alternative in a conversation to be heard is raising my voice. Yes, I admit I raised my voice. Finally Mike, the nonexistent salesperson,called me back and told me the car was sold! I laughed uproariously! This is the salesman who solidly assured me that Mike Calvert’s prices are transparent and that they have won awards for sales. So, I am fortunate to be flexible location wise when purchasing a car. Wanted this car and this is the massive, intentional miscommunication nightmare I experienced. WOW! I wonder what a non transparent transaction would be like? More
