I arrived at Old Orchard Nissan to purchase a used Nissan Leaf advertised online for $14,500. When I arrived with a cash offer, I was told that the $14,500 was only the Old Orchard financing price. I was repeatedly pressured to finance with Old Orchard Nissan, even just to pay it off the next month. I said I was not interested in financing. In Cook County, the taxes and doc fees and license transfer is ~$1600 for the car, so my out the door price should have been $16,100. I said I would give them $15,000 out-the-door. I was then told the lowest price they can do for cash was $18,500 -- a even $4,000 more than the online listing. I was also informed by the sales supervisor, Erik (or Eric?) that I would not find a better price anywhere else in the Chicagoland area. I said no thank you and left, after shaking hands. I have been called by a sales representative from Old Orchard Nissan on 5 separate days since I refused their arbitrary upsale tactics. I was encouraged to come back to the dealership, to work with another sales associate to see if they could work the numbers differently. I am confused as to how another sales associate could make ~$2500 arbitrarily disappear when the sales supervisor told me that I would not find a better deal in town? I suspect that this car will sit on their lot when they could have sold it to a willing buyer, but they decided it was best to hold on to their profit bottom line for a few days before reeling me back in. Sorry. Hard pass. Shady business practices in my opinion. I don't need a reply from Old Orchard. I am simply writing this to inform potential buyers of the way they handle used car business. Won't go there ever again. Bridge burned, and then burned 5 more times. I did find another Nissan Leaf, same model and condition, for the price I was willing to offer, out-the-door, at another dealership in Wheeling. Had a pleasant experience at Tasca Chevrolet. Maybe they just needed the Leaf off their lot, or maybe Tasca isn't shady. Same car is on the lot a month later, reduced in price again. More
