"I wouldnt trust them with your vehicle"

- MikeHarrold

I am going to try to keep this as accurate as possible to the timeline of how this all went. May 28, 2018 The dealership informed me that the engine on my car was bad and would cost me $7,500. I told the service person that called me that I was uncertain if I had the money to do that and I asked if there were any other options and was told no. I called a few different repair centers and found an average quote for a new engine with installation $6,000 so I am not sure where the discount was coming from to replace it. May 29, 2018 I emailed the dealership and asked if we could do a used engine and if there were any other options available to me. Later that day I got a reply that explained that Ed Schmit would not install a used engine and an explanation as to why. There were still no options other than a new engine offered. During this time, I started doing research into options. I found places that would recycle my car. I then replied and let them know that I understood why they felt they could not install a used engine. So I asked about recycling my car and if my car was worth the investment. I was kind of wondering at this point why no one was trying to talk me out of fixing the car and buy a different car. Yet again later that day I got a reply “most of the time they were very quick to respond to these emails”. This time I was told that the best thing I could do is look up my vehicles worth on kbb.com and decide if it is worth it. I was finally asked if I would like to talk to a sales person. I responded, “Yes please”. I also called and asked if they would give any type of trade in value for the vehicle. I fully understood that the vehicle in its current state would not garner much value but thought it should hold some value because of the parts. Just to be clear at this point I am sad that one of my favorite cars died on me but I am not mad. May 30, 2018 I did a good bit of research into companies that will recycle vehicles and found a place that would give me about $2,000 dollars for the vehicle which is better than nothing. I also spent a good bit of time researching the value of my car and why it was worth quite a bit less than it did 3 years ago. ** I also learned that the reliability rating for the car had fallen significantly in the past year.** Now at this point I am calling other service center and getting other estimates. Most of the service centers I spoke with had offered me a cheaper rate to install a new engine but all of them told me it wouldn’t be worth it as the vehicle had decreased in value significantly. They also took the opportunity to talk to me about what kind of car I would like to replace this car with and offered to have me talk to a sales person or the would call me if I would like. I emailed Ed Schmidt and asked if they had heard anything from the sales team. After that email I soon get a response. I was told that they would give me between $500 to $1,000 and I was given the contact info for a sales person. At this point I still was not mad at the dealership. I was disappointed that no one was reaching out to me with suggestions and that they wanted me to initiate contact with the sales person. I assumed that it could be chalked up to them not having pushy sales people though. I decided to spend a little time and look at a few options. I ended up recycling the GTI through a company I found online as they were going to give me a bit more for the car than the Ed Schmidt dealership. One of the services the company offered was to pick up the car for me. We agreed for the company to meet me at the dealership to pick up my car. June 1, 2018 Called and left a message to find out what my bill would be for the car. No call back. June 4, 2018 Called and left a message to find out what my bill would be for the car. No call back. June 5, 2018 Called and left a message to find out what my bill would be for the car. No call back. On a second call this day finally answered me. June 6, 2018 This is the day I had scheduled for the recycling company to come pick up my car. I drove to the dealership and met with the driver out back where they seem to put the cars that are to be serviced when they need to get them out of the way. That whole experience went well without any issues. But when leaving the parking lot, a problem occurred to me. No one stopped and questioned the fact that we rolled into their parking lot and removed a vehicle and no one seemed to notice. So here is where I do get mad. Most of this is somewhat innocuous, and could be ignored as a difference of opinion on how these situations should be handled. I felt as though they should have had options on hand before they called me and should have been ready to walk me through this. But like I mentioned before maybe they just like to do things different. After removing a car from the lot without so much as a “hey what are you up to?” I have to say that I am quite disappointed in the overall service. I do find it kind of interesting though that if someone would have just reached out to get me into a different vehicle I may have been fine and ended up not being angry with Ed Schmidt. Therefore, I am giving a one-star review. Not because my engine went bad. I mean don’t get me wrong I am far from pleased about that but I don’t blame Ed Schmidt for that. As an additional note. I filled out a survey for Ed Schmidt that came to my email after all this in which I described all of this. The fact that you replied to my google review only giving you one star without knowing that adds to my frustration and helps prove my point for me. I have emails and screen shots to show the communications with Ed Schmidt. Please feel free to call me if you would like to discuss. The end.

Unfortunately, there are times when we sell a vehicle that you cannot see an issue coming no matter how thorough the inspection process. Particularly when the vehicle is 14-years-old with 170,000 miles on it such as in this situation. Regrettably, in this circumstance, you did not purchase extended coverage, you signed a document stating the vehicle was sold 100% AS-IS. We were very disappointed when you came in so soon after purchase with an issue, however we checked it out at no charge and upon hearing of the timing issue, we informed then you that though you purchased the car completely AS-IS for $8900 (not $13,000) we would offer you the coverage we offer on other non AS-IS vehicles. That warranty is a 50/50 parts and labor coverage. Not only would we cover half of a repair we legally had no obligation to cover we would also give you a brand-new car to drive for a week while we made the repair. This is not an offer many dealers would make and an offer most customers would be content with. Nonetheless, there is certainly no easy way to deal with a situation like this. We try to be as understanding and as accommodating as possible while still running a business. I am truly sorry your purchase wasn’t what you needed it to be.

"Ask for Matt Cunningham!"

- Gavin11

My husband and I have bought several vehicles, new and used, from Matt Cunningham. He is not only a great salesman but continues to help his customers throughout their ownership of their vehicles. Matt is very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. He is the reason we will keep returning Ed Schmidt for our cars and service! Much thanks to Stephen in the service department as well for his knowledge and commitment to customer satisfaction!

"Deceptive business practices. Will not honor warranty of work"

- SSB

Throttle Body failed on 12/29/14. Ton Fitkin at Ed Schmidt is a great guy and helped us out in a difficult situation (car failure when in town for a family funeral) Paid $428.00 for TB repair and 4 new sparkplugs. 2/29/2015 TB failed again. Replacement cost $550.00. Ed Schmidt Service Mgr. Eric Scott refused to honor 12/12 warranty on repair saying 12/12 only covered new spark plugs ($55.00). Result-- It cost us almost $1,000.00 to replace TB that should have cost $500.00. Ed Schmidt GM does not stand behind their service. Deceptive business business practices! Buyer BEWARE!

"I took my 3 week old Jetta in for some minor QC issues. I..."

- 23Hammer

I took my 3 week old Jetta in for some minor QC issues. I had a rattle in the dash and I thought the car sounded loud at 60-70 MPH. I was greeted upon my arrival by Brandon, who had my repair order and loaner vehicle waiting for me. The whole process took 5 minutes! Brandon kept me informed during the day as Justin worked on my vehicle. They fixed my dash rattle, and to my surprise my "minor noise" wound up being a bad RF wheel bearing. They replaced this part and my problem was solved! They also completed a courtesy inspection for me and washed my vehicle. When I went to pick up the car, they had my paperwork ready and I was again on my way in 5 minutes. I was impressed with the narrative given on my repair order of what they had done to my car. Brandon took the time to explain my problem in the notes to which Justin gave very detailed notes on what he did to both diagnose and resolve my issues. To determine if my wheel bearing noise was "normal" or not, they even drove a new unit off of the lot for comparison. I was impressed with this dealership on the sales side and I am equally amazed at the service! I will be back!
