When my vehicle wouldn’t start and was smoking from the engine, I had it towed to Pine Belt’s service department. They ran a $200 diagnostic, which showed a cylinder 1 misfire. The service writer told me Zurich required a tear-down to find the cause — but warned it could cost up to $6,000 if it wasn’t covered. That seemed suspicious, so I called Zurich directly. They told me they didn’t even know my vehicle was in the shop. Weeks later, after the tear-down, the dealer called to say it wouldn’t be covered because the cylinder head was “defective” without giving any mechanical reason or evidence of abuse, neglect, or aftermarket parts (the actual exclusions in my contract). My vehicle has 124,000 miles and now its "defective"?! Zurich later confirmed they never received any written documentation — just a phone call from Pine Belt saying “the cylinder head is defective.” They used that as the sole reason to deny my claim, despite the part being clearly listed as covered under both the lifetime and extended warranties. My vehicle sat at Pine Belt for 3 weeks. After being told there was “nothing else I could do,” I was stuck. I couldn’t bring it anywhere else without paying for both the tear-down and reassembly which they told me would cost more than just fixing it there. If they did the work, they’d waive the tear-down fee but the repair bill came to $5,500 out of pocket. Bad communication. Misleading coverage. No customer advocacy. If you buy here, be prepared to pay big when Pine Belt Service and Zurich point fingers at each other instead of honoring their warranties — and expect excessive charges for diagnostics, tear-downs, and compression tests.
