John, A very unfortunate situation. I reviewed your vehicle history and it appears at the time of the appointment, we could not determine what part(s) had failed or were defective on the air conditioning system. Per Honda diagnostic it is instructed to evac/recharge the system and look for leaks and or failures or defects. If that does not produce any conclusive evidence, then introduce dye to the system, have the owner drive the vehicle for a short period of time and return for a tech to inspect to pinpoint the failure or defect. It appears you also had a vehicle service contract which may have covered any failed or defective components. Since we could not determine the failure/defect, in the interim the owner is responsible for the diagnostic charge until it can be determined if the failed or defective component is a covered item with the vehicle service contract company. Once it is determined if the vehicle service company covers the needed repair, the diagnostic would be refunded to you. We documented this on your invoice so you would have that in writing. This is also the same process Honda maintains if vehicles are still under factory warranty. It is unfortunate that the vehicle had less than 16K miles and the A/C was not functioning as designed. The first step is determining what part(s) have failed or are defective. I am confident we would have repaired the A/C system if given the chance to complete the process.
