I did most of my negotiating online, so when I finally visited the dealersh BUYER BEWARE I recently purchased a vehicle from Richard Lucas Subaru. I did most of my negotiating online, so when I finally visited the dealership the decision came down to the final price. I must say I was please with their willingness to negotiate, and I feel like I received a fair price. However, that is about the only positive thing I can say about the dealership. I finance a portion of the purchase, as Subaru was offering a special 2.9% financing. When it came time to sign the paperwork, I noticed I was being charged 4.9%. Having a credit score above 800, I thought this odd. When I inquired, the financing officer seemed surprise, and then told me, "oh look, I can get you 2.89%", as if he were doing me a favor. Phil, the salesman, seemed like a nice genuine guy, but I shortly discovered it was all just an act. I traded in a vehicle toward the purchase of my new Subaru, and accidentally left a few personal items in the vehicle, most importantly my E-ZPass tag. I called the dealer the next day, and spoke to a gentleman who told me he'd make sure he set these items aside, and I intended to pick it up when my registration was in. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to pick my registration up when the time had come, so I kindly asked they send this item to me in the mail, along with my E-ZPass tag. I had also owed them a few items related to my trade-in, so I immediately over-night shipped them to the dealer via Fed-Ex (for a whopping $10) when I knew I would not be able to come into the dealership. A week goes by and no registration in the mail, so I call and am told some reasonable excuse. Okay, no problem. Another week goes by with 3 un-returned phone calls, and 2 un-returned e-mails. Finally, a call from Phil telling me how sorry he is, and that the items will be shipped today, albeit 3 weeks late. No problem. Another week goes by, so feeling fed up, I decide to just go to the local DMV and get a duplicate copy of my registration (at this point my temporary tags were well expired and I had no registration that matched my old tags) and call E-ZPass and report my tag lost. Well, it has now been another 2 weeks and still no registration or response from Phil. At this point it is clearly evident I will never see these items again, however this just speaks to the level of customer service you'll receive at this dealership. After you're out the door, you're no longer of any use to them. I consider this odd, and a terrible business practice, as this was the tipping point of me choosing to get my vehicle serviced at a different dealer. If Phil cared enough to send me my items for less then $10, he could have more than made up for it in service and repair visits over the life of my Subaru. However, I'm not sure this is a concept such an incompetent individual would comprehend, as clearly evident by his actions. Additional notes - the car was filthy when I drove it home from the dealership. There was a layer of dust about a half inch thick on the dash board, scuff marks on the door panels from people getting in and out of the vehicle, and the dirtiest front windshield I had ever seen. This should have been an indication of things to come, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. For another few hundred dollars, I would have gladly given my business to a different dealer, and will never be returning to Richard Lucas. Also before purchasing the vehicle, I asked about the type of fuel required. I was told it took regular gasoline, which was a relief to me as I had been required to put premium gasoline in my old vehicle. Upon taking the car home I cracked open the owners manual only to read that Subaru recommends using premium gasoline in this vehicle. Clearly, the salespeople are not very knowledgeable about the products they sell. More
I really enjoyed the car leasing experience with the car salesman Robin. He made the experience fun and worked with me on the price target. He really took the stress and pressure off. We went in last week with a specific car and price in mind. Barbara was friendly and knowledgeable, did not waste our time. I called on Saturday for info how to return a lease and trade another one in for a used car. He called us to give us some price options, set appointment for Wednesday. He called us Tuesday to confirm which is a plus, we weren't going to be just anyone when we walked in. When we went in on Wednesday, he was there and greeted us warmly! Wayne was very patient with us and we went for a few test drives. He explained all features for the models we drove and was very knowledgeable when we asked questions. Once we settled on the Subaru we were in the hands of Jason the finance manager - that task went without a hitch. Meanwhile, we were introduced to other Richard Lucas staff - we had already known some because we've been buying or leasing from Richard Lucas since 2007 so we felt right at home. I cannot say enough about the pre visit calls, the time at the dealership spent with Wayne Steele, and the follow up since we bought our car. We wouldn't go anywhere else for our car in the future if we ever decide to sell our Subaru. Thank you, especially you Wayne, for your professionalism and courtesy and care you took when we were there! More
Everything went smooth as silk, from the upfront great internet price ($1,900 less than my local dealer), my dealings with Wayne Steele, right through to the financing guy John. At no point did I feel pressured to buy anything I didn't want, including dealer add-ons, extended warranties, or insurance. These things were presented, but when I decided against them we proceeded cheerfully on with the sale of my new 2014 Forester. I've never had a better buying experience than I had at Richard Lucas Subaru; they are honest, fair, and upfront with pricing, and genuinely friendly. Wayne, in particular, put our best interest ahead of his and the dealership, and for that I plan to return as a repeat buyer. I would rate this dealership 10 + on a scale of 10. I actually did not purchase from this dealership because it was a little out of my price range (I'm just a poor graduate student) but they had fabulous customer service from the moment I showed interest unt it was a little out of my price range (I'm just a poor graduate student) but they had fabulous customer service from the moment I showed interest until I found another vehicle. If I had a bigger budget I would have hands down chose this dealership to buy from. More
My experience at the dealership with Joe was very enjoyable. He walked me through the buying process, covered all aspects of the vehicle including visiting with the service group.
