I asked whether the technician could use 5W-30 oil in my Tacoma. This viscosity is used in other regions for the same 2GR-FKS engine when towing or operating in high heat, so I wanted to ask about the possibility. Instead of discussing it, I was told it could “affect my warranty,” but no further explanation was provided and nothing could be put in writing when I asked. The service manager then brought out printed pages from the owner’s manual and said, “This is in writing.” The pages stated that 0W-30 may be used temporarily, with a return to 0W-20 at the next change, but they did not support the claims being made about warranty issues or 5W-30 being unsafe. When I asked if he was there to help clarify or simply shut down the conversation, he answered, “Shut you down.” At that point, I even said that I would be fine with 0W-30, which is clearly listed in the manual as acceptable, but the answer was still no. There didn’t seem to be any willingness to discuss options or explain policies in a helpful way. I mean, when you print out pages and jam them in front of someone, your saying you can’t read or didn’t read. My review isn’t about the oil itself — it’s about the interaction. I simply hoped for a more professional and respectful discussion. Unfortunately, the experience left me feeling dismissed and insulted rather than helped. I hope future customers receive clearer communication and a more constructive approach. I will be taking my service elsewhere.
