Rocky Start saved by Prosper I found a used car on Edmunds that was the make and model that I was interested in and Vandergriff had it priced just right. I called the dealership I found a used car on Edmunds that was the make and model that I was interested in and Vandergriff had it priced just right. I called the dealership to inquire about it and the person that answered stated they would find it and call me back. After 30 min, no one had called so I called back. The same person that originally answered said they got side tracked and that the vehicle had been sold on Saturday. Bummer. On a lark I went to Vandergriff's website and noticed the car was still listed (this was on a Tuesday). I found it odd that it was still listed when it had been sold 3 days ago. So I used the customer service chat function on the site and filled out my contact info. Five minutes later I was called back by a different person who said the car was still on the lot and wasn't sure why the former person said it had been sold. I scheduled an appointment with James to see the car in person. I inquired why I was originally told the car was sold and I was told that the person didn't see the key in the rack and assumed it had been sold. In my opinion, the search for the car stopped there and there was no intention to call me back. I was just another person on the phone. When I arrived, James was with another person and I was passed off to Prosper. After a few minutes Prosper said that the car was up on a lift with the oil drained and the shop had closed. They knew I was coming to see the vehicle and now the only view I would be able to see is the undercarriage. Upset and anyone else would be, I got up to leave. Prosper told me there were a lot of inquiries for this car to which I replied it was not a unique car. Prosper asked that I give him 30min and his sales manager would get oil back in the car and pulled down from the lift. I stayed, did the test drive and then the usual back and forth on the price. In the usual haggling, I was bothered by the fact that "dealer adds" and "carpet sealant" was added to the invoice. All of which I requested to be removed as I didn't ask for them nor did I want them. Another issue was that Edmunds listed this car as being sold at Vandergriff and had special internet pricing which was lower than the asking price. Thankfully I took a screenshot because I would've otherwise had no proof and they wouldn't have bugged on the price. In the end, Vandergriff did meet the reasonable price I was hoping for and removed the extras that were automatically added. If a customer does not take their time and read the fine print, this will easily add $2k to the bottom line. I will say I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the transaction closed. It took roughly an hour from price agreement to leaving the dealership. Additionally, I didn't receive the usual hard sell on the extended warranty and then when declined, the person becomes indifferent and rushes me to get out. It remained a friendly experience the whole time. Delivery of vehicle: I wasn't able to take delivery because the vehicle had just been traded in to the dealership and had not gone through all the inspections. The next day, Prosper called me to tell me they had removed the tint because it was too dark. Something I didn't authorize and was how I purchased the car. So this was one more issue Prosper had to resolve for me. Which he did. All of that said, I finally have the car they way it was listed and the way I purchased it and I am extremely pleased. Were it not for the above and beyond customer service by Prosper, I would have easily left and found that version of the car somewhere else. I was in no rush to buy and was happy to keep my existing vehicle. Thank you Prosper and your sales manager for making it right and I look forward to dealing with you again. More
