On New Years Day, I started driving my car after it had been sitting out in the bitter cold only to have the check engine light come on and flashed as my car started to shake. When the check engine light flashes, you know it's not a good thing! I turned right around and drove back to my friend's house, fearing the worst. I called the Autobarn of Mt. Prospect. Though they were closed, I left the Service Department a message. They called me back first thing on Monday when they opened. I explained to John Paul what happened. He recommended I call the FREE Road Side Assistance and have my car towed. I have this FREE service because I had my 100k service appointment 6 weeks before. (This has also come free for my 85k, 90k, and 95k service appointments). The tow truck showed up in 20 minutes. The tow truck operater was very friendly and happy to help me. He asked me what the problem was and I explained. He responded with, "Wow! I'm surprised because we never tow VW New Beetles!" Once at the dealership, John Paul said they'd be able to look at it shortly and would give me a call when they figured out what was wrong. About an hour later, John Paul reported that one of the fuel injectors was shot and I was only running on 3 cylindars, hence the shaking. He also mentioned that there was a Software upgrade for my New Beetle with regards to starting the car in the cold. They fixed my car within a couple hours and gave me a great price for the job. John Paul explained in detail about what was wrong with my car and what was needed to fix it. Now, after the Software upgrade and new Fuel Injector, my car runs better than it has in several years. I moved to Milwaukee over a year ago and I STILL bring my car back to the Autobarn of Mt. Prospect! These guys are fabulous! I've taken my car to the Autobarn of Mt. Prospect for all of my services (every 5k, coolant flush, "waxing/detailing", etc.) and for the VERY few things that have broken over the past 8 years of owning my car. I can't imaging going anywhere else. I would recommend the Autobarn of Mt. Prospect to anyone! These guys always take GREAT care of ME and my car! More

I had been looking for a new car for the last 18 months and had my heart set on getting a Subaru. I hadn't considered a VW, but I just decided to stop by and take a look. I wanted AWD, but I also wanted a high mileage vehicle, so Cliff suggested I consider a diesel. My wife said "absolutely not" to a diesel. She remembers the old, tiny, stinky, poor acceleration VW Rabbit I had many years ago. But Cliff was very patient and spent several hours with us, explaining the benefits of the new clean diesel technology, and the quality and safety of a VW. Cliff is the exact opposite of a typical high-pressure salesperson, which always turns me off. We test drove a turbodiesel Jetta, and I instantly loved it. It has good acceleration, handles well, feels solid, and the exhaust has virtually NO smell. It's so clean it even qualifies for a $650 federal tax credit. It was the last manual transmission Jetta they had on the lot, and now it's my car. I'm very happy with the choice. (And so is my wife!) More

The Auto Barn is the BEST VW dealership in the area. I am on my second car from them and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I broke the cardinal rule in the winter and tried to roll down my driver side power window. Once the window finally thawed, the pane slid into the door and I had obviously broken it. I had purchased the car used and assumed the repairs would take most of my paycheck, but John not only had the car repaired that day at no cost, but they took care of an outstanding recall that was on my car too. Martin was very friendly and took his time with me. No pressure from him at all. The whole process took a little longer than I was hoping (this is including the financing and getting the car ready time), pressure from him at all. This was my first VW and Martin went over everything in the car with me to make sure I knew how to work all the gadgets. He also scheduled my first maintenance appointment for me and gave me a certificate for a free inside/outside detail as well. Nice. Raffi also helped me out by showing me how the rain sensing wipers worked right before I left. Also a very nice guy. Overall I have to say I had a good first experience with Martin and this dealership. If the car holds up as good as it looks (I got the CC), they may have a new regular customer. More

Cliff Nelson is great. I highly reccomend him. Very friendly and helpful. Just watch out for the huge "Certified" upcharges. Had an electrical problem with my 2011 GTI that could have resulted in me getting stranded. Called the dealership and they brought me in the same day, set me up with a rental, and had the car diagnosed have resulted in me getting stranded. Bill Dolan was very friendly and helpful. Although he's the service director it's clear he still actually works on the cars, which is a comforting thing to know. More
