I financed a vehicle from Volkswagen of West Islip in October 2023 and was sold an extended warranty from Renascent Protection Plan through the dealership. At the time of sale, I was clearly told that I would be eligible for a refund if I sold or traded in the vehicle before the warranty term expired. Over $4k. Fast forward to March 2025 — I traded in my car and immediately requested the cancellation and refund. What followed was an incredibly frustrating and time-consuming experience. I made multiple phone calls to both the dealership and the warranty company, and no one could give me a clear answer. Each party pointed fingers at the other, saying “it’s up to them,” with no accountability or transparency. I even had to take off work and drive over seven hours round-trip to the dealership just to complete a form—only to be told later that I would not receive any refund at all. This was despite the fact that my refund quote showed over 79% of the contract value remaining. Just because there was claim? Company paid to fix the car they sold warranty for? and over $3k left, the company simply won't refund. I had previous experience with another warranty provider that paid out more in claims, and yet I still received a partial refund when I canceled early. That’s why I feel completely misled and taken advantage of in this situation. Buyers beware: if you're considering financing an extended warranty from this dealership, do not rely solely on what you’re told at the point of sale. Once the contract is signed, you may find yourself in the same position I did — stuck in a loop of blame-shifting and zero accountability. I’m extremely disappointed with how this was handled and would not recommend purchasing an extended warranty through Volkswagen of West Islip without fully understanding the fine print and cancellation implications.
