I've used Sunset for my VW for the past 7 years without
an issue. This time around, while the people I dealt with were good, I was unhappy about the significant cost of a water pump replacement which is a
an issue. This time around, while the people I dealt with were good, I was unhappy about the significant cost of a water pump replacement which is a known defect of 2014 Tiguans. Because I was outside of the 10 yr window by <2 years (well within the 100K miles at 75K), I had to pay the full cost of their poor design. Additionally, the service tech tried to 'upsell' me on some Walnut blasting process to clean carbon off the valves for another $700. If they had thrown that in for free since their water pump caused the problem, I would have been a satisfied customer. They didn't. Finally, to add insult to injury, VW has chosen to charge 3% for credit card transactions, which would have been another $80. As a large global company who provides high end services, this felt like a slap in the face because some Finance wonk at HQ wanted to increase margins by 3%. I'm now actively looking for a local, private shop that deals in German cars for my service needs in the future.

People only buy from people they trust and like, and Andrew did an ok job, but was intentionally put in a very unfortunate position to share an offensive $3,000 estimate for something I fixed with a $75 part, 2 hours of YouTube and 45 minutes of my time doing the repair. Customer service and system failure, and a sad day for VW, its dealer network and the techs who are being inappropriately incentivized to be morally corrupted instead of praised and respected.
