I owned (yes, past tense) a '23 Shortage Hybrid LX. It was a very good car despite missing some essential safety items (like standard blind side monitoring and LED directional signals on the side view It was a very good car despite missing some essential safety items (like standard blind side monitoring and LED directional signals on the side view mirrors), and one major issue. In gear, my engine would make a knocking or rattling noise at 2200 rpm and higher. This was especially noticeable with the passenger window open. I took the car in three times to 2 different dealerships, waiting between a month to a month-and-a-half for each appointment. On the third time, I even rode with the service tech who confirmed the noise but had to refer the issue with the master mechanic. The master mechanic, in turn, stated he did not know what was causing the knocking and had to keep the car overnight as he "was conferring with engineers." I also had to rent a car, during this time, as dealership no longer provided loaners costing me $200 on top of the aggravation! All visits, including the last one with audible confirmation, resulted in "no problem found!" I REALLY wanted to keep my Sportage Hybrid as it had a comfortable ride, good acceleration when needed, a lot of cargo and passenger room, and excellent fuel efficiency. I am saddened, that after 2900 miles on the odometer, I felt I had to trade the car in. From my viewpoint, the dealerships employed a "deny and deflect" approach to their supposed great warranty programs on their vehicles! I lost a great deal of money in the trade-in to a sub compact SUV, paying $40 dollars more per month for financing. More
