Disappointing Experience After Purchasing a Used 4Runner I recently purchased a 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium from Toyota of Manhattan Beach. The vehicle had approximately 7,000 miles on it, and I expected it to have been properly checked before being sold. On my drive home to Santa Barbara, I discovered that the microphone was not working. I couldn't use voice commands, and when I made phone calls, the people I called couldn't hear me. I spent approximately four hours trying to diagnose the problem myself before taking the vehicle to my local Toyota dealer in Santa Barbara. They kept the vehicle for an entire day, ordered a replacement part, and required me to bring it back for another full day before the problem was finally fixed. I contacted Toyota of Manhattan Beach to explain the situation. Either the dealership knew about the defective microphone and failed to disclose it, or it failed to properly check a basic function before selling the vehicle. I have no way of knowing which, but either possibility raises concerns about its inspection process. To their credit, the dealership apologized and offered me a $50 credit toward Toyota accessories. However, after the considerable time and inconvenience involved, I found that offer inadequate. An accessory credit is not meaningful compensation for the hours spent diagnosing a problem and the additional time required to have it repaired over two separate dealership visits. I declined the offer. The microphone is now fixed, but the experience left me disappointed with how Toyota of Manhattan Beach handled the situation after the sale. I wasn't expecting anything unreasonable, just a fair acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused by selling me a vehicle with a basic function that wasn't working. I would encourage prospective buyers to thoroughly test all the vehicle's features before leaving the dealership and to consider how the dealership responds when something goes wrong after the sale.
