My wife and I purchased our second car from Den Simpson at Ventura Toyota. We purchased it in August 2023. The car was used and a good car. The only problem we had is that it only came with one key. Deon promised us that the keys were hard to find but that he would get me a second key. It took a while (February 2024) but Deon came through with his promise. He called me and said to come to the dealership with my only key. It had to be programmed with the electronics. To end the story it came NO CHARGE. This is one honest guy. More

We chose them as they had good reviews here and on Google. Buying a used car is fraught with so many con artists and unethical practices that we were very careful. But, even though they are seeming Google. Buying a used car is fraught with so many con artists and unethical practices that we were very careful. But, even though they are seemingly nice people, we had two really negative things that make me think they are not as ethical and reliable dealers as I had hoped. Both issue have left us out of pocket and suggest they sold us a lemon, perhaps knowingly (at least with one issue). 1) I asked some detailed questions in advance to gauge how good condition the car was, and it took a lot of emails for the answers to come (inspection report, whether brake pads measured at 4 (5 is minimal) had been replaced etc.). Before we drove 90 mins to get there, I asked one last time: Is there anything else I should know about the car? No was the answer. After 3 hours sitting there doing paperwork - I kid you not, it took 20 mins to find the right person to speak to - we packed the car and were handed a key. I asked for the other and they said - "oh we only have one, but I can text you the number of someone who can do one for you". $300 additional cost ON THE DAY OF PURCHASE. What premium dealership sells a 25K car with one key and does not let the client know in advance? Now we have been left with a bitter taste and genuine worries other issues have not been revealed to us. The manager called, and apologized for only providing one key, BUT DID NOT OFFER TO PAY FOR A REPLACEMENT. Apologies are cheap. Solving problems are what counts. 2) A couple of days after leaving the showroom, the engine warning light came on! Every used car buyer's worst nightmare. I emailed and called but it took 5 days to respond. the manager promptly told us we could bring it in, but they would only solve it if it was covered under a warranty (and the warranty company they use has terrible reviews online for avoiding covering anything) 3) The used car buying process they have created takes 2-3 hours with lots of moments where the salespeople profess to not know anything and then the finance people will help... who then try to upsell. We would have walked away before going if we had known. All this is why I dislike buying used cars, why the industry has such a bad rep, and why I asked the detailed questions in the first place. And dealers wonder why people find it so frustrating and stressful. More
