Generally I’ve been happy with the service center at Smithville Ford. This trip included a bit of frustration that centered around a needed replacement of sway bar links. Smithville Ford said one was Smithville Ford. This trip included a bit of frustration that centered around a needed replacement of sway bar links. Smithville Ford said one was bad but they always recommend replacing the pair. My extended warranty (CarShield) would only approve replacement of the one worn out one which, “coincidentally” would cost just less than my policy deductible. I asked the person handling my repair to please explain: their suggestion of replacing both vs one; and his statement that filing a claim with the warranty company would increase my costs but got no response to those questions. I told the customer arrant that Ford recommended replacing both but they would not authorize both. The repair spanned about 6 days (including a weekend). My warranty policy allows up to $60/day rental reimbursement. First their rep said that I wouldn’t qualify for reimbursement because more that 24 hours had passed since THEY closed the claim which they closed immediately upon declaring that only authorizing one link would be less expensive than my $250 deductible… So, yes, this sounds like the source of my frustration might be with the warranty company. Probably. But I also feel the service manager could/should have provided me with the logic behind their recommendation to replace both links and that, armed with that logic (from the mfr of my vehicle) I might have been successful convincing the warranty company to authorize both links. Now I’m left anticipating that the other link will wear out soon and that, once again, I’ll have the inconvenience and expense of a second costly repair that, (conveniently for the warranty company) falls just under my deductible. The service department is a joke. They had my truck in for a leaky radiator which should have been covered by the warranty but they said it wasn't. Somehow they were driving it and they broke the windshield. They gave me a loaner truck to drive while they replaced the windshield and replaced the tint on the top of the windshield. After 2 weeks they finally got it fixed and I took the loaner back. They found a couple small 1 inch scratches in the bed of the loaner truck and they refused to give my truck back unless I pay $400 to install a spray in bedliner in the loaner truck. Scratches in the bed of the truck, not anywhere else. If they were worried about it the loaner should have already had a bedliner. They have plastic liners for $100 or they could have paint touchup for $100 either one I would have been willing to pay but they said I had to pay them $400 or I don't get my truck back. I do construction which they know because I had to take all the tools out of my truck and put in the loaner. I even put towels down in the loaner to try and take care of it, but they held me hostage until I paid them the $400 for a spray in bedliner. I feel they were just trying to make the money back for the windshield they broke. This is the second time I've had problems with them. The first time was right after I bought the truck from them. 3 days after the purchase the lights came on for repairs they claimed to have made when they took it on trade. They kept the vehicle and put me in a loaner then for over a month until the warranty kicked in and they could file the claim under the warranty instead of fixing their mistake they made. I will never do business there again. I've heard good things about Crosley Ford in Liberty so I'll be using them from now on. More
