Shockingly Discourteous After registering with the TrueCar buying service I corresponded via email with Star Subaru in hopes of getting a straight-forward, no nonsense buying After registering with the TrueCar buying service I corresponded via email with Star Subaru in hopes of getting a straight-forward, no nonsense buying experience. And boy was I in for a surprise. Not only did the dealer I was emailing with hand me off to a totally different person once I arrived (fine, but surprising) that second dealer -- Jackson Yuen -- could not have been more unprofessional and discourteous to me. Before my test drive, I asked about redeeming an offer that I'd printed out from their web site (a $35 gift card) and they outright refused to honor it saying that only the manager could authorize that and he was not in that day. I felt it was dishonest to not be able to honor such an offer during normal business hours (and borderline bait-and-switchy) and asked who else could do so in the manager's absence. Instead of being professional and courteous, and offering a simple apology, Jackson began to argue with me about it, including accusing me of taking the test drive only to get the gift card. Choice quotes included "This is America! You and I are equals here!" Other people in the showroom overheard and were staring in disbelief. I did not feel welcomed as a customer and said so. I briefly considered walking out but elected to take the test drive anyhow. I had a very nice, if slightly awkward, test drive after that. Afterwards I thanked Jackson for his time and left. It was all extremely unprofessional and startling and in no way a reasonable level of customer service. I subsequently purchased the same vehicle at another dealer who, in addition to being much more professional overall, was happy to honor the same gift card offer. More
