For example, they didn’t have the color in the model I wanted, so Jim Helmig was very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and ready to go the extra mile. For example, they didn’t have the color in the model I wanted, so Jim got it from another dealer in the region and had it at Piazza for me the next day! He very patiently explained all the Civic’s features (many of which were new to me as I hadn’t bought a car in several years) and answered all my questions. He even tolerated my limit testing on the test drive and laughed at my jokes. Overall, largely thanks to Jim, the experience was much more pleasant than it might have been, with one reservation. Until you sign for the car, it’s all about how terrific every aspect of the car is. OK, that’s salesmanship. However, after the deal is ostensibly consummated and you’ve put your signature on the purchase, you hear about all that can go wrong with the car and how you need to buy any of upwards of half a dozen or so extended warrantees that can cost you up to a few thousand dollars extra! This, after thinking you were done negotiating a price for the car. I’m not faulting the Finance Manager who presents these options here; this is all about corporate (Piazza? Honda?) policy. It unduly prolongs and adds stress to the purchase process and makes you wonder what good the basic warrantee is these days. More
