Maximizing profit ahead of customer loyalty

Over the past 30 thirty years, I have bought 8 cars with a variety of sales experiences, Elkins Chevrolet was the worst one yet. When the dealership (or any sales transaction), surreptitiously, claims that they are doing you a favor, it becomes the worst experience. Ultimately, the car was purchased, as my spouse truly wanted it. But the experience with the sales manager (Mike) was demonstrably worse than other experiences. Ryan, the salesman, was a nice guy, but who cares, since it is the sales manager who makes the call on pricing.
The car was offered at 16,999 online. When we arrived, it had an additional 3000 miles on it because it was being used as a demo, since the dealer took ownership sometime in late November. The car was bought wholesale by the dealership, so they paid somewhere between 12k to 13.5k. They were easily making a minimum profit 15 per cent. The sales manager reduced the cost to 16,499 dues to the additional demo mileage. I felt reducing it another 500 was more than fair (considering 3000 miles were added in 8 weeks and I was a cash buyer), it would have them with a more than reasonable profit, and I would left feeling that they actually put a customer before maximizing profit, and they would have had a customer for life. Another 3 per cent reduction would not have put them out of business.
When it came to my reduction request, Mike, the sales manager, gave me the same garbage lines that all dealerships do about aggressive pricing, and this is the best you’re going to get compared to other dealers, since it’s certified you’re going to get a one year warranty and two (!) free oil changes, and blah blah blah. Again, maximizing profit for short-term gains. This is not about me nickel-and-diming them, it’s about getting a reasonable price that I feel good about, and the dealership making their profit. Mike did give us an extra free oil change for good measure.
My other car does not have much time left, so a good experience would have brought me back. My advice is to stay away.
Lastly, these review sites are fake-dealer-employee-posted-garbage, just like Amazon fake reviews. Who in their right mind would believe that a car dealership has 1500 positive reviews and less than 30 negative reviews?

We can certainly understand your concern on the vehicle's additional mileage, but believe Mike Bergholtz's agreement to reduce the cost of the vehicle was mutually fair. You are correct that your vehicle, like millions of others on the pre-owned market, was a leased vehicle purchased from auction. However, with respect, your prediction on our price of the vehicle is a bit off. With today's hyper competitive and connected market, it simply isn't possible to list a vehicle for a minimum of 15% markup and stay relevant while working for a major manufacturer. This is of course before the vehicle goes through our shop, is reconditioned, and GM Certified, which does not come to us without cost.
Our honest, upfront pricing is why South Jersey has trusted us since 1991, and why so many have gone out of their way to leave us so many exceptional and kind reviews. Not to mention, Dealer Rater takes many precautions, including tracking IP addresses and locations, to prevent dealerships and their employees from creating reviews to inflate our ratings. We have earned these 1500 positive reviews by treating every one of our customers with respect, and take great pride in what we do.
