Beware of undisclosed fee for "Shop Charge". I called and received over the phone a quote for a battery replacement. Was quoted the battery and labor cost to install. While the battery was about 50% more expensive than at my local auto parts store, I knew it would be difficult to install (lots of plastic trim must be removed to install), so I went ahead with having the dealer perform the work. It was raining quite hard when my wife arrived with the car, and the team rushed to move a car so that she could pull into the covered area - she really appreciated that! Initially, the Service Consultant offered a significantly more expensive battery that was quoted over the phone, and had to spend time consulting with others before he could find the one that was quoted to me. After the work was completed, I reviewed my invoice and discovered that $40 had been added for "Customer pay shop charge for repair order" - this was 2/3 the cost of the battery installation itself. This cost was not disclosed prior to completion of the work. When I asked about this I was told "That charge is a percentage of labor for hazardous waste disposal, shop supplies, cleaning solutions." While I can see this applying to some work, I don't see how it applies to replacing a battery, and just seems a way to increase the cost after the work has already been completed. In summary, this was my first experience with this dealer, and I feel they could have done better. While I would go back, I will definitely consider other options as well. More
