Debora and Javier said “no” and gave us a copy of a clean CarFax report. We bought the car based on those statements and documentation that Honda of Lisle provided.
We recently traded in the Civic on a new car. It was at this point we were presented with a CarFax report that showed the car had body damage to the rear quarter panel. This damage happened nine months into the lease with the first “owner”. The car had body work done at Lisle Auto Plaza Body Werks. This shop is somehow connected/affiliated with Honda of Lise. The car was repaired at this body shop 17 months before it came off lease. That is plenty of time for the data to be updated in CarFax.
We lost money on our trade in because Honda of Lisle did not disclose the body work when we asked direct questions about condition and body work. Honda of Lisle presented a clean CarFax report when it should have showed the car was damaged and repaired.
We will never purchase another car from Honda of Lisle. We will be sure to tell everyone we know about the experience that we had at this dealership. You decide if what Honda of Lisle did was honest and ethical.

I am sorry to hear that you or any of our customers have had an unhappy experience with their vehicle or experience from Honda of Lisle. Over the last 60 years, we have taken great pride in selling and servicing vehicles throughout our community. It is alarming to me when any customer has a complaint, especially when it concerns an accusation of fraud. I can assure you that we will investigate the allegations that you submitted to the BBB.
Initially, I reviewed your complaint and asked our team to retrieve manual copies of the transaction from 2018. This may take a few days as we keep older documents off-site at a secure document storage location. I do want to take a moment and point out a few items from the documents you sent to BBB and the ones that I was able to review and submit today.
1. As you stated, the initial Carfax that you were given in April of 2018 does not show any damage or accidents reported. I wanted to point out that Carfax is a third-party company that gets its information from many data points. Carfax added the “Damage Reported: very minor damage” with a date of 11/15/2016 sometime after the date of your 4/24/2018 Carfax report. We have no control over when Carfax reports data to their vehicle reports.
2. Originally, we sold the 2015 Honda Civic in February 2015 as a new car. We re-acquired the vehicle from another party three years later and listed it for sale in February 2018. At that time there was also documented damage or accident on the Carfax. We will look through our information, but it appears that the previous vehicle owner had a repair done on the vehicle. We will look through our records to see if the work was done by us, but at this time there is not record in our digital records. Carfax reported that incident as “very minor damage”.

Let me respond to your points.
1) The CarFax that your dealership handed us shows no damage. I still have that report. Your employees made statements that there was no damage. The damage happen on 11/15/2016 and it does not take 17 months to update. We are to believe the damage magically appeared at this point?
2) Your sales people told us the car had been returned from a lease. Now all of a sudden you "re-acquired" the car. You said there was documented damage at that time. We asked specific questions regarding condition and body work. Why weren't those questions answered honestly?
3) I really don't care about the severity of the damage. The point is when a buyer askes specific condition questions why is it acceptable to not be truthful or provide an accurate CarFax report? Buyers make decisions based on information they are told and documents that are presented.
4) I looked up the Kelly Blue Book value of the car before we traded it. The condition fell into the Excellent range which valued at about $12K. You did not see the condition at trade in. The car was ceramic coated and the front clip had paint protection film so it didn't even have any rock chips. The interior was equally in great condition. I would be happy to provide pictures of the car. The value was lowered because of the hidden body damage and paint work.
The real condition of the car should have been disclosed, along with a valid CarFax report, so we could have made the decision to purchase the damaged car or look for a different one.
You can call it what you want. Whether it be fraud or material concealment, I am out $2K because of statements that the sales staff made and the CarFax that your dealership provided at the time of sale to justify the price we were being asked to pay.
I definitely Highly recommend Honda of Lisle.

But of course, by the time I realized, the papers were not there, I didn't have a copy, or a picture and the deal was done- I just hate leaving feeling stupid & not Super Happy. I thought I had done everything right buying a car on my own, and still left feeling stupid, even if it was only $200. But, I do love my car, it is missing a headrest in the backseat, Javier said he would try and contact the previous owner to try and find it...! And a small panel that covers the fuse is missing, but I can find that for a minimal $, so not worried. All an all, the entire process was not as horrible as buying a car could have been. The finance guy was very nice as well. I just wish I had taken a picture of the final price I said yes to before he whisked the paper away.

Have had my old cars serviced here for years and never had an issue with the service staff. They always do a great job and keep me posted with their progress. Sales staff in passing have also been quite nice, so perhaps I was just “lucky” to get these two who also repeatedly mentioned how busy they were that day.
