Service Dept. could not help with failed smog check I failed the smog check with a permanent diagnostic trouble code (PDTC) in the vehicle's computer system. The service tech claimed it does not exist b I failed the smog check with a permanent diagnostic trouble code (PDTC) in the vehicle's computer system. The service tech claimed it does not exist because he does not see it with his expensive audi diagnostics equipment. I had the vehicle scanned by 3 independent techs afterwards and they all confirmed the PDTC is there. I finally found a knowledgeable VW tech sho confirmed that the Audi equipment doesn't show these codes and that they will only go away after the car's computer detects sufficient drive cycles to confirm the issue is resolved and then clears the code. I also learned that you can pass the smog check if the car completes 15 warm-up cycles and 200 miles since the last code clearing. I would have expected the experts at Audi to provide this information, but they seemed clueless about it. Note: George did his best to help me out. Dropped my car because of a problem, they thought they solved the problem with just cleaning a panel with damp cloth. They didn’t even check if it was fixed or not, which it wasn’t.
