Living in Newton, MA with three young kids, my wife and I decided it was time to buy a minivan. At first we intended to purchase a new 2011 Toyota Sienna XLE or Limited trading in either our Prius or Lexus decided it was time to buy a minivan. At first we intended to purchase a new 2011 Toyota Sienna XLE or Limited trading in either our Prius or Lexus SUV. After some further thought, we decided to keep our current vehicles and purchase a used Sienna XLE with low mileage and/or recent year model. After searching online for used Sienna's in the Boston area, we expanded our search to include nearby locations in New Hampshire and Rhode Island. That's when Bristoal Toyota popped up on our screen with a very reasonably priced 2010 Sienna XLE that met our criteria (low mileage, Nav system, and entertainment system for the kids). Plus the vehicle was a Certified Certified vehicle. Our primary concern was the possibility of wasting our time by driving 50 miles away from home to inspect and perhaps purchase this vehicle. We traded a number of emails and phone calls with Barbara and Paula to obtain more details about the vehicle and find a time to look at the vehicle. The contact was very professional and prompt while never being pushy. I drove down with 1-year-old son one morning, mid-week between January snow storms. Barbara greeted us at the door, offered me a cup of coffee and directed us to Paula. Paula and I chatted for a bit about the vehicle while other sales staff kept a watchful eye on my son as he crawled around and explored the showroom floor. Paula had the vehicle up front, ready for my inspection and test drive. She helped me transfer my son's car seat into the Sienna and answered any questions I had as I test drove the vehicle around Bristol. All very low key, congenial, and informative. I decided we would purchase the vehicle. Once again, her colleagues entertained my son ("free babysitting!") while Paula and I discussed the purchase. Closing the deal with Paula and the dealership was very straight forward with no last minute surprises or dealer add-ons. They took care of all the MA registration and license plate details, coordinated with my insurance company, prepped the vehicle and personally delivered it to our home in Newton. First rate customer service. The best car buying experience I've ever had. And a dealership, whom days before I had never heard of, I am happy to heartily recommend to anyone interested in buying a car, new or used. Paula, Barbara and the entire Bristol Toyota Dealership could easily be a positive case study in Ken Blanchard's "Raving Fans" book which outlines how consistently delivering stunning customer service can result in not just satisfied customers, but raving fans and a very successful business. I hate the gamesmanship: I hate being made to feel like a Supplicant, or an addict in need of a fix; I hate being made to feel guilty about striking a good bargain; I actually had a manager at a Honda dealership (rated very highly here, by the way) tell me about an internet price offered to me: “I don’t even want this deal. I’m not making anything on it,” At that moment, I decided that he was going to get his wish. He didn’t get that bad deal-or the sale. But I digress-to repeat, I hate the total car-buying experience. After walking out of a local dealership (“come on down”), I began to read reviews about them here, and on several occasions, was impressed by the number of reviewers who, after having been jerked around by this bunch, encouraged the reader to go to Bristol Toyota, assuring that the experience would be entirely different. To quote several reviewers who live in my area (near Attleboro), “It’s worth the trip”. They were right. My first contact with the dealership was with Internet Manager Barbara Azevedo, who responded to my email request for information with direct answers to my questions, and a very good offer on a new Corolla. That was all; just an answer to my email, a good offer and an invitation to follow up with the ball comfortably in my court, as it were. Very nice… I followed up, spoke with her on the telephone, and the relaxed and professional manner of the way she dealt with me drew me to their door. I was met by Sales Manager Brian Peruggi when I walked through the door. I told him what I wanted, showed him my internet offer, and he introduced me to Steve Blakely. This was no ‘hand-off’; Steve and Brian were now my team. In fact, a few times, Steve stayed late or even came in on his day off to be there for me. He was, at all times, professional, friendly and courteous, and I never, ever felt pressured or ‘handled’ in any way. And Brian was always a phone call away, no matter what the time. I was sold; now to sell the car to my wife, a Honda person who was skeptical. It was easy; I simply told her of my experience, and she came with me on my next visit, and understood what I was talking about. She will tell you that she has bought many cars, but never experienced anything like the friendliness and professionalism of Bristol Toyota. I cannot say enough about Brian Peruggi: although he is apparently the “go-to guy” in the dealership, and is constantly in demand, moving about the place like a whirling dervish, he found the time to stay with us throughout the entire process. He got us into our new Corolla with an incredible deal (yes, they honored the internet offer, and so much more); and while doing so, made us feel as though we were the only customers there. Bryan’s was the last hand I shook when I drove off in our new car. But the story continues: My twenty-something son needed new wheels and I brought him to Bristol. You know the rest. He got a great deal on a Corolla, he loves it, and he left Bristol Toyota feeling good about it. I had to have on more taste. I brought in a 2006 Magnum that had high mileage and was showing signs of age. No problem. New Prius. Lower payments. Three cars in one month; two of my own, and one for my son. And if I were looking for a car tomorrow, I would go there. Aside from the quotes (which were excellent) and the deals (which were fantastic) what I am left with is that for the first time in my entire life, I left an automobile dealership feeling good about my purchase and my experience. I feel as though I have made new friends who sell cars. We have another car that will be ready for trade-in in about another year and a half; and we will be going back to Bristol Toyota. Barabara and Buddy were very friendly and helpful(not at all sleazy like other dealers we visited). They were not pushy and they were very responsive--both in timeliness, positive/good answers and attitude all sleazy like other dealers we visited). My experience with Bristol Toyota was great! I was considering a new car purchase because of the great end of year prices, incentives and financing going on. I wasn't convinced it was the right time for me though. Brian was very friendly and patient in explaining the options in vehicles and the possible payments. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and helpful but not pushy or agressive, which I greatly appreciated. Brian took the time to work with my busy schedule and accommodate my needs. Before I called Bristol Toyota I wasn't sure if I was ready to purchase a vehicle yet. I got Steve Axtell on the phone and described what I was looking for and after a few trips back and forth to the lot ready to purchase a vehicle yet. Went by the dealership on a Sunday and walked around the lot. We noted the vin numbers of a few trucks I was interested in and then went home and looked up the vehicles online. I send an enquiry to the internet sales manager Barbara Azevedo on two vehicles I was interested in test driving. I was pleasantly surprised to get an immediate response from Barbara and went to the dealership Monday evening. I was then handed on to Dawn Wellington who helped with the test drives and helped complete the transaction. Overall my wife and I had a very pleaseant hassle free experience and will definitely be back when it comes time to trade in our Sienna. David Armitage More
