For example, when told about a recommended alignment, I asked them to check if one were needed--it wasn't. Without my asking, I would assume--if I trusted the service center--I "should" have an alignment. And this is just an example. The service people (in general, and certainly the last person with whom I worked) are very courteous and willing to talk about their "recommendations"; my guess is the push for separating the customer from her or his money by making recommendations for services without checking if they are needed, is from management/Toyota/whomever. More
