I recently brought my Ford Expedition in for a recall. Upon completion of the recall I picked the vehicle up after the service department was closed. When reviewing the invoice, there was an unexpected specific charge of $195.98 (before tax). The dealership cashier could not explain the nature of the charge. I paid it so that I could take my vehicle. I called service the next day and nicely inquired about the charge. They explained that the $200 was a "diagnosis charge" to determine that the serpentine belt pulley was squeaking. The charge was just to diagnose it, not to replace it, explaining that they take customer concerns very seriously and that a full diagnosis of the engine had been required. Really? $200 to listen to a pulley? I live close to the dealership and have seven Ford vehicles, and generally I'm fairly pleased with the dealership - but this has taught me to keep my mouth shut in the future when I drop my vehicle for recalls or price pre-determined oil changes.
