There was never any high pressure sales tactics at all. It was on a Saturday, a very busy day, and I was thanked for being patient. And my patience served me well. Once I was in the finance office, Adam, whose surname I can't remember now, was also just as professional as Rueben. Adam explained everything to me thoroughly, very detailed. I've been letting everyone know just how great my experience at Hamer was. I had my decision made before walking in and Hamer honored it!!! Thank you Rueben and Adam and the entire staff at Hamer!!! Keep on doing what you guys do because my next car will be purchased from Hamer Toyota Scion. Thank you, Eduardo Torres More

Beware When Buying a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle You might think twice about buying a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle from Hamer Toyota when you hear what recently happened to me. On April 30, I a You might think twice about buying a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle from Hamer Toyota when you hear what recently happened to me. On April 30, I attempted trade in my Hamer Toyota purchased “Toyota Certified Used Vehicle,” a 2003 Highlander, on a new Toyota Rav4 in my home town. While waiting for the trade-in offer, the manager came out to the lot to inform me that a CarFax inquiry they just ran had revealed, much to my surprise, that the Highlander had been owned by at least two previous owners before me and had experienced left front structural damage which rendered it worth several thousands of dollars less. I was surprised because when I bought the vehicle from Hamer in 2003 I was told that it had been new vehicle returned to them because the original owner did not believe it had enough power to haul his new recreational trailer. It was not disclosed to me at the time of purchase there had two previous owners before me and the car had experienced left front structural damage. In fact, as a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle, it had been given a clean vehicle history. With this startling new information from the CarFax, I went back home and pulled out my old Toyota Certified Used Vehicle Supplemental Warranty Manual to see who I should contact about this problem. First step, it advised, was to get in touch with the dealer that sold you the car, Hamer Toyota. I sent an email with a description of the problem, and copies of my Hamer Toyota Certified Used Vehicle sticker from the Highlander, and the new CarFax report. The delayed response from the general manager was “sorry not our problem.” As current owners who purchased Hamer Toyota from Hamer Motors, they did not believe they were responsible for any purchase at Hamer Toyota before 2011. Strangely, in looking up Hamer Motors, the company they said they had bought the dealership from, it has the same address and current website as the Hamer Toyota I contacted. This seemed very suspicious and confusing. Now what? When I consulted the Toyota Certified Used Vehicle Supplemental Warranty to see what my next step should be, it said call Toyota Motor Company. That made sense since it was a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle. But my phone call revealed that no, Toyota doesn’t really certify the car — the certification and deal were strictly between me and the Hamer Toyota dealership that sold me the car. They did say that they would create a case number and notify the dealership that sold me the car that there was an unhappy customer. In a few days I was contacted by the customer relations person at same Hamer Toyota I had initially contacted. They had received a call from Toyota. I found it very interesting that Toyota Motor Company believed that this dealership had sold me the car. So I replied to Hamer Toyota again and explained the situation, and we went round in circles again - yes, even though they may appear they should be responsible, they were not. One might think that Hamer Toyota might make some good will offer to a customer who has clearly gotten screwed, but the customer relations guy indicated he doesn’t recommend good will offers for customers. So much for the superior customer service they claim to offer. The customer relations guy then directed me to only communicate with the former owner. Ok, I gathered all my documentation and sent it along with another description of the situation. I shipped it off to Hamer Motors at the same address as Hamer Toyota. Three weeks later, still no response. I contacted Toyota Motor Company again and their customer service representative said I had gone through their recommended process for resolution. Since Hamer Toyota did not resolve it, I was on my own. My frustration might lower their corporate rating of the dealership but that was about all they could do for me. So it appears that if you bought a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle from Hamer Toyota before 2011 and that certification was inaccurate and led to the loss of thousands of dollars, you could be liked me - screwed. As just your average customer who hangs on to my cars, I don’t know if what happened to me will happen to others in the future. I don’t know how common it is that a change in dealership ownership voids responsibility. But I am suggesting going with a reputable dealer who would not use that tactic to avoid obligations. And if you are thinking about buying a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle, don’t assume that Toyota is certifying anything or standing behind the accuracy of a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle. Any misrepresentation about the certification is strictly between you and the dealer. Toyota, apparently, won’t stand behind the initial certification. So be advised that your are putting your faith in the Hamer Toyota dealership, not Toyota. This is a mistake I will not make again. More
