I’m writing to share a frustrating and disappointing experience my wife and I had at the Mahwah Honda dealership, which raises concerns about transparency and trustworthiness within dealer network. I c experience my wife and I had at the Mahwah Honda dealership, which raises concerns about transparency and trustworthiness within dealer network. I contacted several dealerships to compare pricing on the 2025 Honda Odyssey. A sales representative at Mahwah Honda assured us that they would honor 10% off the MSRP. I made it very clear that we were ready to make the purchase the same day, as long as there were no surprise charges and the only added fee would be the standard dealer fee of $899. He confirmed that he had spoken to his manager and told us we could come in. Both my wife and I own businesses and had to rearrange our schedules to be there. When we arrived and selected a color, the representative printed out a quote, but we noticed that the destination charge was listed twice, once as MSRP and as add on. Additionally, some kind of total protection fee of $519 was added. When we questioned it, the representative claimed it was a computer error and went to revise the printout. The new quote, however, still included a $519 “Total Protection” fee that was never previously mentioned over the phone. His manager came over and explained that the fee was for a program that would give us $2,500 toward a future Honda if our car were to be totaled. We asked for this to be removed, but after a lengthy and frustrating back-and-forth, it became clear that they were unwilling to proceed without the added fee. They clearly attempted to mislead us by adding another $2,000 in fees. We walked out feeling misled and disappointed. We had negotiated the price ahead of time precisely to avoid this kind of experience. This would have been our fifth Honda purchase, and never before have we encountered such tactics. Not only did we waste over three hours of our time, but we are now left questioning whether such practices are becoming the norm at Honda dealerships. We sincerely hope this does not reflect Honda’s core values. More
