My 3 year lease on a Honda lease was expiring in June 10, 2020. I came to the dealer and picked out another Honda Civic for a new lease on May 4, 2020. The salesman , Mr. Strong, gave me a list of option 2020. I came to the dealer and picked out another Honda Civic for a new lease on May 4, 2020. The salesman , Mr. Strong, gave me a list of options for the car to evaluate. He then left office. When he came back he presented a sales contract which contained charges which I didn’t recognize. I questioned the charges. After a lot of questions by me Mr. Strong told me the sales manager added them. (This without my consent.). I told him to remove the option. He said the sales manager would remove the option. To me this is deceptive and a violation of normal business ethics by the sales manager. I asked Mr. Strong if the last payment on that contract could be credited back to me. He told me to call my bank to stop it since it was an auto pay. I later learned from Honda Financial Services the any refund of remaining payments had to be negotiated with the dealership (misinformation or misleading by salesman). I went in to sign the final contract a found the sales manager had not removed the option I never asked for ($995 for future service work). The finance person (Gene) removed the option and called Trans Union but was unable to remove the freeze on my account. I had removed the freeze from my Experian account but was told that Honda would not accept Experian. After spending four frustrating hours in the dealership I went back home. The following day,May 5th, I was able to remove the freeze from Trans Union. I called Gene and he confirmed the freeze had been removed. I signed the contract and leased another Honda. I still like the Honda product but my experience with the dealership is the most unpleasant in all of my 16 lifetime auto transactions. The leased Civic sedan Touring which I returned was evaluated to have a value of $15029 by the “blue book guy” at the dealership. It had 14500 miles on it in 3 years, was serviced at the same dealership and had one ding on the back door passenger side diameter less than 1”inch in diameter and 1/8”deep. It was in excellent condition. Two days that the car was listed for sale at $19323 by the same dealership. The new lease was listed on the dealer website at a discount of $1400 which took the price down to $24k+. I don’t know what happened to that discount. For all future buyers of Honda autos in the Newark, Ohio, I would suggest: BUYER BEWARE. More
