Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us regarding the operation of your 2014 Honda Jetta. We understand how frustrating it can be when something on the car fails or isn't working correctly. We certainly want you to be able to enjoy your car and all of its features the way it was designed. We understand the roof was operating correctly when you left the dealership and only several weeks later did it fail. As you mentioned earlier in your message, you acknowledged that you bought the vehicle from us here at the dealership pre-owned and in As/Is condition. . In short, that just means that you are accepting 100% of the risk associated with any failure or defect that occurs during your ownership period. JHH did offer you at the time of purchase an opportunity to mitigate that risk through the purchase of additional insurance for coverage in the form of a vehicle service contract as unfortunately the nature of machines go, they may wear or fail at some point. We understand that you declined any coverage at that time. We certainly don't blame you for the failure of the moonroof, In fact you let us know during your visit that you had done your own research and found that the roof failure is quite common in that particular model. It sounds like the roof may have a defect inherit in the design. JHH did not build the vehicle and we only suggested that you consider taking to an authorized VW repair facility because in some instances, if a manufacture has a design issue with a component they may elect to offer financial assistance in the form of a goodwill repair. You had indicated to us that you didn't want to participate financially in the repair of the car otherwise we would have attempted to repair it at our service facility. With your car being out of manufacture warranty by time, but not miles we had hoped you may have some success working VW directly, as it sounds like the car has a design defect. If you would like us to complete the repair for you, would be more than happy to assist in the cost of the repair by offering any replacement parts at dealer cost and paying 50% of the labor cost.
