The buyer is vulnerable from the get-go and can easily become a victim. I just got back from a visit John Hinderer Honda, one of the largest dealers in the area and I'm still in a state of shock over what happened. I have been in the market for a Mini-van for several days. Yesterday I visited a Toyota dealer and looked at the new Sienna. I got a quote and then headed to Hinderer to look at the Odyssey. A salesman met me in the parking lot and showed me the cars and then invited me into the showroom. I told him I had looked at the Sienna but liked the Odyssey better and wanted to know how much they sell it for. He refused to give me a price. Instead he went to a back office and brought over one of the owners of the company to speak with me. I told them that I was interested in the car but needed to know how much it costs and then the car to my wife.. They refused to give me a price but kept on asking me if I was willing to buy the car that night. I told them that I could hardly consider buying the car if I did not know what the cost was. After a few minutes going back and forth, the owner got up and left. The salesman told me that they would not talk price unless I was "really interested." Later that day after the kids got out of the swim meet I took the family to see the Toyota and then quickly, since the dealer was closed, the Honda. The family like the Honda so today I called the salesman and told him I was bringing my wife to test drive the car and asked him to please get me a price since I already got a price on the Toyota. I asked him to please not play any games with us. He assured me that he would have a price. We got there, test drove the car and went into the showroom to talk. When we sat down the salesman started filling out some forms and asked to make copies of our drivers licenses. When I questioned him why he needed this and asked him to please tell me how much the car cost, he got up went to a back room and came out with a manager. The manager, a gruff well-dressed man, sat down without even a polite hallo and asked me how much I was willing to pay for the car. I responded that there was no way I could choose a figure since I don't know what the car sells for, so I asked him to give me a figure since he is the seller. Well, at this point the manager was obviously angry and began to lecture me about the car industry. He claimed that Toyota could discount their cars because they are having a hard time selling them and they don't have a good resale value. From what I have read this was BS. He then asked me to choose between the two cars and what I thought was a fair profit for the dealer. I replied that I could not choose if I don't know what I choosing between and that I didn't care what profit he should make. All I wanted to know was how much they were willing to sell me the car so that I could make a rational choice. Well, the guy would have none of it and just got up and left. I never found out what John Hinderer would be willing to sell me the for. And on top of that, I wasted two trips to his dealership and exposed my wife to this surreal abuse. We left in a daze. If you are not willing to play their game( where they hold all of the cards), they will just blow you off. These are the kind of guys who give car dealers a bad name and make them the brunt of "B" movies. More
After buying a used vehicle from them, along with a rather pricy warrenty I started having transmission issues. I took it to them and asked for them to look at my issues. I argued for a while however I was not successful. They lied to me and said that I was stuck and that my warrenty was only good at there shop. However when shopping at another dealerhip for my moms new car I told the service manager my problem. They had my car in that friday and I had my new transmission in later the next week. John Hinderer Honda is run by a bunch of liars. My father has had problems with them as well as some friends of mine. I would never suggest anyone buying a vehicle from this dealership. I would however recommend Roush Honda in Westerville, Ohio. Or Honda East in Columbus, Ohio. More
