Purchased a 09 Honda ridgeline here 1/2/21 and since have had it in twice for non-normal maintenance. The ac compressor had to be replaced but only after I was forced to go around in circles for months to t had it in twice for non-normal maintenance. The ac compressor had to be replaced but only after I was forced to go around in circles for months to tell my service writer and finally scream to get the manager involved once it started smoking( b/c the compressor seized up and it was burning the serp belt). I also had to be the one to tell them that on this specific year make and model, honda decided to interlink the engine fans and the ac compressor. So, even if the ac is off but the engine fans kick on, the ac compressor is going to kick on. This put a lot of work on the compressor. When this was told to my service writer he looked at my like I was stupid and stated that isn't how cars work. I told him again that this one does. So when the vehicle was burning the belt and I forced them to tow it to the dealership on a Sunday, Monday bright and early I was there and they had to jump it to get it started, this is important later. Again I told the about the linked fan and compressor and that they shouldn't leave it running. They didn't listen. My service writer come out to talk to me and get the milage and can't even get the maintenance message off the screen to get the mileage (this is how little they know about the vehicle). I tell him again about the fan and compressor link and tell him to please turn it off and again get told that it is not how cars work. As soon as I done saying it a second time the engine fans kick on and the seized up compressor makes all sorts of noise and smoke come out from under the hood from the belt being burnt. The writer scrambles to turn off the car and i just tell him "see like that". So they warrenty out the compressor but never bother to check why the vehicle needed to be jumped. All along having to fight with them about a rental. A week or so goes by after I get it back and now it needs to be jumped every time I need to start it. So I brought it back and they told me the battery needed a charge and they charged it and sent me on my way. The next morning needed to jump it again. Brought it back. I was furious. After much back and forth they tested it again and I was told the battery failed and $237 for new one with 1 year warranty. I said no that I want a honda battery b/c it's cheaper and 8 year warranty. I go across the street and end up talking to the Honda service writer about the battery and Honda tests it and tells me it's fine. We get to talking about all that has happened with the ac and the series of events. The Honda service write asks if hyundai replaced the relay for the ac because a bad relay could make the compressor go bad and then drawer power from the battery even if the vehicle was off. I looked at the paperwork from when hyundai replaced ac and no replacement of the relay. I was then sent to buy a $30 part and shown how to install it. This part has made the ac compressor stop cycling on and off constantly and I have yet to have to jump my vehicle again. In the end if the relay was replaced before it was sold to me or when I brought it to hyundai in April with the original problem of the compressor cycling on and off every 5 seconds all this headache would have been avoided. The sad part is that my husband had to put more freon in the ac system last night because it was low and blowing cold and I am forced to bring it to hyundai b/c that is where I purchased it and I was told I can not bring it to another dealership outside of larry miller unless I'm out of a certain milage away, which I'm to close to too many and a larry miller honda is in Utah according to Google. I have to deal with a dealer ship who refuses to listen to me and refuses to actually look and fix my vehicle for another 3.5 years. I'm not looking forward to it. More
Renee did a great job explaining everything to me. She was very understanding of my situation and provided much needed advice. She didn't push me to take something I really didn't need either.
