Our goals were to reduce our reliance on fluctuating gas prices and to take advantage of the expiring federal clean vehicle tax credit. Because claiming the credit requires specific documentation from the dealership, we limited our search to well-established and reputable dealers. Lorenzo Nissan advertised a low-mileage 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV. Before visiting, I contacted their online sales team and specifically asked whether they could provide the required paperwork for the federal tax credit. I was assured that they could. During our test drive, I asked the salesperson (Jenny) the same question and received the same confirmation. Based on these assurances, we chose Lorenzo Nissan over another dealership offering a similar vehicle. Lorenzo Nissan also offered what seemed to be a reasonable trade-in value, purchase price, and financing. While completing the paperwork, I again asked the finance manager (Hassan)—who prepared the contract—whether I would receive everything needed to claim the tax credit. He confirmed that I would have all the required forms and information for my tax return. After the purchase, I attempted multiple times to contact the dealership’s finance department to request a copy of the Clean Vehicle Sales Report, which I later learned is required to claim the credit. My calls, emails, and messages went unanswered. A few weeks later, I stopped by the dealership in person and spoke with the finance representative who handled our purchase. He told me that the Clean Vehicle Sales Report is typically filed through their accounting department and gave me another copy of the sales receipt. No additional documentation was provided. When I later filed my tax return, I entered all required information—VIN, purchase price, and dates—and initially it appeared that I qualified for the full $4,000 credit. However, the following day my return was rejected because the VIN had not been registered with the IRS. Once again, my attempts to contact the dealership were ignored. I ultimately returned to the dealership and spoke with the receptionist, who informed me that Lorenzo Nissan does not participate in the clean vehicle tax credit program and that management should never have told me otherwise. She confirmed this with someone from accounting. At that point, I was told there was nothing they would do, despite the repeated assurances made before and during the sale. As a result, I lost a $4,000 tax credit due entirely to incorrect information and broken promises from Lorenzo Nissan. This experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing. If you choose to do business with Lorenzo Nissan, I strongly recommend getting everything in writing and not relying on verbal assurances—especially regarding tax credits or other incentives. More
