Hello Ms. Nelson, My name is Mike Barcalow from Burnsville Volkswagen. I’d like to convey my concern for your unfortunate mishap with your Passat. I’m sure as you’ve experienced with our service department, we would love to have been able to fix any failure of parts by the manufacture on your vehicle. I’ve reviewed the damage on your vehicle and have conferred with VW’s warranty manual which should be in your owners hand book. The one thing that prohibits us from filing a claim with VW on your vehicle is that there is the intrusion of other parts due to the accident that caused the failure of your serpentine belt. Below is the clause which spells out VW’s responsibilities and your responsibilities under the factory 36month / 36,000 mile limited warranty. Volkswagens Factory Warranty as it states in the VW Warranty handbook on pg 7 Under “What is not covered by this warranty” Damage or malfunction due to misuse, negligence, alteration, accident, or fire: “Damage or malfunctions caused by collision or modifications of the vehicle.” As far as we can determine the correct course of action for you is to take this matter up with your auto insurance, and start the claim process with them to account for the damage to your vehicle. Sincerely, Mike Barcalow Internet Sales Manager 952-892-9426

Mike-I don't know how I can convey this information any other way, but I'll try one last time. I looked at the vehicle with Shannon and some other person, I think Brad. He pointed out where the pulley touched the wheel lining or fender lining or whatever you want to call it. Although I think it is ridiculous that the damage to my front bumper, which is not major, caused that to happen, I acknowledged that I saw the mark. Shannon said he would give me the photos, which he did not, but I went back to the shop where I had the repairs, and I discussed what I saw with the people I work with who are motor vehicle experts (having managed body and mechanical shops in the past), and they, down to the person, agree that the belt, WHETHER OR NOT THE PULLEY TOUCHED THE WHEEL LINING (not yelling but adding emphasis since no one at Burnsville VW is seeming to understand this) the belt should have NEVER come off the pulley due to the tension of the belt and the groove that holds the belt secure on the pulley. Never. Not from that amount of damage. Please do not tell me to report this to my insurance company any longer. I work for a trucking insurer and know perfectly well that you won't pay for the collision damage to my vehicle. I am not trying to pass off collision damage as a warranty issue, and I'm starting to get a little insulted that the people at your business think I'm that dumb. Also, I read the contract because I know how to read a contract, and it is irrelevant to this situation. I'm asking you to cover the cost to replace the belt since it failed. Please read and re-read this if you have to. I think I've made my position perfectly clear, and for some reason, everyone I am talking to at Burnsville VW is skirting the issue-the belt, regardless of how the impact occurred, should not have come off the pulley. I have owned multiple vehicles and believe me, they've hit things and been hit much, much harder, and this has never happened with any of them. This is my first VW, however, and the first time this has ever happened to me. If you would like to resolve this matter fairly, I'm willing to listen, but I will not respond to any more suggestions to read the contract or call my insurance company since that is just a deflection from the real issue. Thank you for your time.

As a store we value greatly our customers and our online reputation. It is not only our job but our duty that each and every customer leaves our facility with the satisfaction that we did everything we could to make their visit fair, enjoyable, and pleasant. In this instance we inspected the guest’s vehicle and found that the part that failed was caused by the collision damage that had occurred recently. Under VW’s warranty we couldn’t perform the repair to her Passats serpentine belt and claim it as a warrantable repair, nor would any other VW facility be able to. We still value her business and recommend that she bring the matter up with her insurance company.

I see that you will be posting a public response to my review instead of responding to my last message to you. I find that very disappointing. I feel as if no one in your organization is willing to stop for one second, think about what I am saying and address the issue. I will post a response publicly as well, and rest assured, my business will be taken elsewhere. Again, I'm really disappointed in the "broken record" game that is being played so no one has to respond to the belt failure which should not have occurred regardless of a collision.
