$2000 to repair a seat that I fixed myself in an hour This service center came recommended by a friend. I had bought a 2007 Mercedes from that friend that bad a minor problem with the seat. Someone had pushed something under the front seat that dislodged one of the shafts from the motor that drives the seats forward and back. When I took it in I explained clearly what had happened to the service manager who told me "it happens all the time". I expecting to pay a few hundred for the service tech to re-engage the shaft and leave happy. A few days later I get a call from the service manager "The seat frame is bent. We're going to need to replace the entire frame." I explained that I knew exactly what the problem was and he should talk again to Tech to verify. After that call I expected to hear from them in a few days. NOPE. A week later I get a hangup on my cell from the service center. NO MESSAGE. 3 WEEKS later I reach the service manager who informs me the repair will cost $2000!!!! Needless to say I go and pick up the car. I look around a few of the MB forums and find this is a common problem and has an easy: 1) Remove the seat bottom that is held in by 2 screws on the front of the seat. 2) Reinsert the flexible metal shaft going from the seat motor back into the seat track 3) Replace the seat bottom and tighten screws holding it in. The ONLY thing I needed to buy was the Torx screwdrivers to remove the screws on the seat. TOTAL COST $30 on Amazon. Simple repair. Total time 1 hour for a inexperienced noob. I guess that is why the service manager said "it happens all the time" They must fix this all the time for $2000!! I currently own 3 cars that have all their service done at dealerships and have never experienced something like this. I am a retired broadcast industry executive in my late 40's and have purchased new many luxury class vechicles like Infiniti and Audi. I had been considering a new high end Mercedes like the E550 or E63 AMG since my $60K Infiniti M45x was nearing retirement. However, after this experience, I have sworn to never buy a Mercedes have been relating my experience at RVC Mercedes to everyone I know. More
