The staff was polite and communication was good. However, the same issue returned the day after the third repair attempt, so the problem was not resolved. I have a brand new 2025 Toyota Sienna, and I recently took it to the dealership service center because the tailgate latch was malfunctioning. We had to manually hold the bottom down just to get it to ope took it to the dealership service center because the tailgate latch was malfunctioning. We had to manually hold the bottom down just to get it to open, as it completely failed to open on its own when using the key fob. When I arrived at the dealer, the service advisor told me I had to sign a paper stating I would agree to pay an estimated diagnostic fee of $230 in case the defect was deemed "external," such as from an accident. Before signing, I explicitly asked him, "This doesn't mean I am going to have to pay for this, right?" He reassured me, saying that I wouldn't have to pay anything unless they determined it was absolutely not a manufacturer defect. Knowing my car is brand new, I naturally expected them to honor the factory warranty, so I felt safe. He made it seem like this paper was just a standard, mandatory procedure to bring the car in.Around 4 hours later, they called my husband and claimed we had to pay the $230 fee, or they would not release our car back to us. My husband and I went straight to the service center and went through an incredibly stressful argument trying to explain to the representative how a broken latch on a brand-new vehicle could possibly be denied warranty coverage. Their excuse was that there were some minor cosmetic scratches inside the trunk area. Based solely on those scratches, they assumed the latch must have been struck by something, causing the failure. This made absolutely no sense to us. We only carry light items, and nothing has ever blocked or interfered with the tailgate opening or closing. They made a massive, costly assumption based on nothing but normal wear-and-tear scratches. After arguing with them for a while, they finally gave us our car keys and waived the fee. However, nobody can compensate us for the intense stress and anxiety we had to go through just to fight for our basic rights. The entire reason families pay a premium for a brand-new car is to prevent this exact kind of stress and hassle. The customer service they provided was deeply disappointing.I am taking the time to write this review to help other people who are either considering buying a Toyota or trying to make a better decision when bringing their vehicle in for service. Apparently, Toyota does not stand behind the quality of their vehicles, and when you try to use your factory warranty, they will do everything in their power to force you to pay out of pocket. I highly recommend that you refuse to sign any diagnostic authorizations until they have actually looked at the vehicle and given you a proper diagnosis. More
