This Dealership is a Hot Mess Upon entering the dealership, I was greeted by Duarte, a pleasant enough fellow. I told him that I was looking for a CX-5, AWD in Grand Touring trim. Upon entering the dealership, I was greeted by Duarte, a pleasant enough fellow. I told him that I was looking for a CX-5, AWD in Grand Touring trim. Despite giving him the specifics, I was told that I had to sit down with him and answer a tedious questionnaire about what type of vehicles interested me, what features and options were important to me, why I wanted to replace my current car, etc. I know they have a format to follow, but when a customer enters the showroom and informs the salesman of the exact make, model, and trim that he or she desires, they should be allowed to skip this time-consuming step. I was interested in (and about to test drive) a silver CX-5, when I showed the salesman a rusty dent in the rear hatch at tail light level. This dealership sits on a small piece of real estate and the vehicles are practically parked on top of each other. We moved on to an undamaged vehicle for the test drive. I was happy with its performance and ended up choosing a similarly equipped CX-5 in a different color. I had the Consumer Reports Guaranteed Savings Certificate, which North Shore Mazda had emailed to me, so there was no need to negotiate the price of the new vehicle. However, they made a couple of shameless, low-ball offers for my trade, requiring Duarte to make several trips to see the man behind the curtain (while ignoring my requests to return my keys to prevent me from leaving the dealership). They finally agreed to give me $2,000 more than their initial offer for my trade. If you have an online certificate from North Shore through Consumer Reports, TRUECar, or AAA, make sure you've researched the value of your trade-in. They will most certainly try to make up the no-hassle price discount by giving you a couple grand less than your car is worth. The finance rep was friendly and was able to get me a rate comparable to my credit union's rate. However, it was only during the signing of the final paperwork that he informed me that I'd have to take the vehicle without an inspection sticker. North Shore Mazda, despite charging approximately $200 more for Documentation Fees than its competitors, is not equipped to provide inspection stickers, so customers must wait until they receive the registration in the mail and then have the vehicle inspected on their own time and at their own expense. In the meantime, the vehicle can be ticketed if it's parked on the street without a sticker. This is tremendously inconvenient and it's no wonder that they didn't mention it until I was ready to leave the dealership. Before I pulled away, Duarte grabbed one of the keys to show me one last feature. He then shook my hand and sent me on my way. About five minutes into my 15-mile drive home, I realized that the gas gauge was showing empty and a warning light was illuminated. They delivered the vehicle to me without putting so much as a drop of gas in it. After I got home, I started searching the vehicle for the second key. Just then, the phone rang. It was Duarte, calling to inform me that he had (inexplicably) put my key in his pocket, as I was leaving. I had to get back in the car and return to the dealership for the key. He asked me for the receipt for the $52 gas fill up and said he'd try to reimburse me, but all I've received from Duarte is a generic thank you email, requesting that I refer others to him. No apology was offered for my having to make a return trip to get the second key, either. Considering the rigid and impersonal sales tactics, inflated doc fees, no inspection stickers, and careless delivery practices, I would not recommend this dealership. One more thing: I recently noticed that my front license plate appeared to be loosely hanging from the front bumper. I removed the license plate and bracket and discovered that Duarte had missed the "dimples" preset in the bumpers, which provides threads for the license plate screws. I had to drill two new holes to secure the plate. Now, I have four holes in my front bumper instead of two. Please don't reward this dealership's sloppy practices with your hard earned dollars. More

Being a bit of a nervous wreck, he completely put me at ease, patiently talking me into test driving vehicle instead of judging it from the passengers side. He helped guide me through the process of buying a vehicle, all the while making me and my daughter laugh with his delightful sense of humor. I recommend him highly. More

Duarte I went to North Shore Mazda with the intention to fix a few parts on my Mazda 3. After being told the cost of the repairs, I felt discouraged. Duarte Bettencourt approached me to inquire my reasoning for being there that day. After explaining my situation, the cost quoted for the repairs, and the fact that I have been a Mazda customer for 7 years, Duarte felt confident that he could help me. Because of Duarte, I ended up trading in a car that I initially came in to fix, for a new 2014 Mazda 3, for just $10 more than what i was currently paying per month. I would recommend Duarte to any of my friends because of his helpfulness and ability to cut to the chase to offer me the best possible deal. More
Highly Recommend, great experience I arrived at N.S Mazda knowing exactly what I was looking for, with no intention of actually purchasing on the day of my visit. When we first arrived I arrived at N.S Mazda knowing exactly what I was looking for, with no intention of actually purchasing on the day of my visit. When we first arrived at the Dealership Al, came out of the building (which in past experiences is never a good sign). We told him that we were just looking for the time being, and he offered to walk us around the parking lot (in the freezing cold) and show us the differences between the trims (we were looking at the CX-5). We found a Grand Touring (top of the line trim) which had more features than I had initially been looking at, but would always be nice in those cold New England Winters (Heated Seats, Dual Zone Climate, etc.) and took it for a Test. The Drive went great, Al told us about all the features that were standard on the car and explained how you could tell the difference in acceleration between the Touring and Grand Touring (Touring has a 2.0L where as the GT has 2.5L) among other things. My Wife and I both got out of the car at the dealership, and were very happy with our experience. We told Al that we wanted to check out some other vehicles prior to making our decision, just to cover ourselves. He gave us his cell number and said to call him to let him know if we chose NOT to buy the Mazda (which in my experience is also very unusual). We went around to a couple of other dealers, Kelly Nissan (Rogue/Murrano), Moore GMC (Terrain), & Honda North (CRV). Nobody ever bothered to come see if we needed any help or had any questions, which I mean it was pretty cold, but if you see people out in your lot take 2 minutes to go out and check-in with them...We did end up going into a couple of the show rooms and test driving a couple of the models. We weren't happy with any of the other cars we tested out. We called Al back after going to the other dealers and told him that we wanted to proceed with the Sale of the CX-5, he was thrilled. He took us to the car to take it out and filled the with fuel, synced both of our phones with the bluetooth system, and put the sold sign in the window (without receiving any $$). We waited around for a few minutes and got to talk with Kevin, in Financing. Kevin made this process seamless, this may well have been due to the fact that we were paying cash as opposed to financing the car. it was incredibly easy and Kevin was very personable and friendly. They said that on Monday (since we were at the dealership on a Friday afternoon) they would send their people to the registry to get all the paperwork taken care of. This didn't seem to actually happen until Tuesday, which was somewhat frustrating for me, but not the end of the world. My only negative of the whole process was having to wait a little bit extra for the car, and that I ended up paying a little more than initially expected, but this was due to MY decision to get the higher end trim vehicle. There was never any pressure from Al to buy the higher end model, at least not directly but its possible that his intention in getting us to drive the Grand Touring was to get us to buy the higher trim. Either way i didn't feel that we were being force into anything that we didn't want to do. The Staff was incredibly personable and friendly. If I ever buy a Mazda again I wouldn't hesitate to go to NS Mazda. On a side note, my wife purchased a Mazda2 From Frank Csencsits a year prior, when they were still Ira Mazda, and he is just as incredible as Al Blank. Had he been there on the day we went to look at our CX-5, we would have more than likely done everything in our power to buy from him again! More
