The vehicle that ct627 is discussing was towed into us with no oil in it and the engine was locked up.We did recomend a new (or used) engine. The vehicle was than towed to the customers friends house. The friend was able to get the crankshaft to turn over, this is something we wouldnt have performed as the damage is allready done once the engine has siezed. The customer than called me and wanted me to look at it.He said his friend got it running.I scheduled him in and than he told me the car needed to be towed in.I really thought that was odd, he told me the car was running and yet he needed to tow it in.We brought it in and did discover that the cam seal WAS defective. However the valve cover was also leaking. There was oil everywhere.Due to the fact that we did have a defective cam seal I told him I would tear down the motor and see how much damage there was.The car had clearly been run out of oil.How much liability would we take on for this i was open to discuss with customer.I believe some of the fault lies with customer as he chose to drive the car with oil light on and leaving a oily mess everywhere he went.Thats negligant on customers part. Before we were able to tear down engine customer called back and said he didnt want us touching it and he would tow it back to his friend.I once again offered to look at it and determine what we needed to do to get it running and would NOT charge for diag., but customer will only bring it in if we agree to pay for his negligence.Anyone driving a vehicle has some amount of responsibility in making sure the car has oil in it and raising question or checking level when oil light comes on and or oil puddles (5 quarts worth) are not just ignored

As I told the dealership earlier, I park in a different location EVERY SINGLE DAY. I lived at an apartment complex when the issues occurred and work at a location where parking isn't assigned. If the part was put in the CORRECT way in the beginning the issue would have never happened. I take some responsibility for this but I also don't check my oil every week since I only drive it to work and back. It is the dealerships responsibility to check their work BEFORE it is given back to the customer. If this would have been done in the first place you guys would have realized the part was faulty. You guys weren't out money by paying for the labor that you make money off of. Do you really pay your mechanic $115.00 an hour? NO. Regardless, you guys stink and I am never taking a car or recommending you to anyone. I was fine paying for some of the engine but not all of it, that wasn't fair. You guys had my car for almost a MONTH. Why would I trust a company that recommends I replace something then not stand by their work? It is bs and horrible business practices. This is the first and last time I will take my car to a Toyota Dealership.
