Excellent car buying experience The lease was expiring on my Benz SUV and after reading the reviews about the new Macan I decided it is the car for me. I shopped around here in LA at many high profile Porsche dealerships and the common response was we "don't have one but if you give us a deposit we will hold one when it comes in at full MSRP". They all said "take what you can get when it rolls off the truck as they sell the day the come in". This attitude was alarming as I wanted a specific color and options. So I contacted AAA-Automobile Club of Southern California's car buying service with my dilemma. They referred me to Walter's Porsche in Riverside, about 1.5 hours from me. I am so happy they did. Tim Churchill answered the phone and stayed patiently with me as we each built a new Macan on the Porsche website. We reviewed all the options; he made worthwhile and cost effective recommendations based on his excellent knowledge of the vehicle. With a reasonable deposit he offered to change a dealer Macan order in the pipeline and gave me the final date to make changes. On a subsequent date he patiently worked another hour or so (phone call to me while we were both on the Porsche build site) to review and finalize my options. He emailed the final build sheet with the exact itemized cost, which I signed and emailed back. Three months later, late October 2014, I dropped my leased Benz off and walked across the street to Walter's Porsche to meet Tim and finalize the paperwork. After a review of all cars features and controls I was down the road. This was a wonderful buying experience from beginning to end. A short time later, Ii cancelled the order because I wanted to wait for information on the upcoming 991GTS. Many salespeople would have been upset at the loss of a quick sale, but Bob took it in stride. He said not to worry, he'd let me know all about the GTS as soon as he had the information. He was as good as his word, and promised me I'd be his first order when the GTS became available. I've now ordered that car for January delivery. I'm not thrilled about the standard wheel choices on the model, and Bob is working with me to arrange an alternative. You can't ask for more. On every purchase or lease I've also worked with Pete Laban as the sales manager. I've never met a friendlier or more knowledgeable person in that position. Walter's general manager, Ed McRae, is also first rate. He's always friendly and informative. I can't help but like him, even if I can never manage to catch him on the track at a Porsche Club event! I've said it before: at Walter's, I don't feel like a customer. I feel like a friend. I won't even consider any other Porsche dealer. More
