Today we went to volvo to discuss our failed transmission. We were told that although volvo knew it was faulty they simply wished to put the problem behind them...behind them but not behind us. More

Portland Volvo Cars responded

First, we have had a very good customer relationship with the Ter Weele family for the last 16 years. In April, Mr. Ter Weele brought his mother’s car into the dealership for service. We were asked to diagnose a check engine light and non-functional air conditioning. The check engine light was cleared at no charge to the customer and the air conditioning was repaired for $157. Additionally, Mr. Ter Weele requested that we replace 4 tires ($639), sublet to a body shop to have the two right doors repaired ($1,467), and appearance recondition the vehicle ($195). There was no line on the repair order, nor any charge for checking the vehicle with a “fine tooth comb”. Two months later Mr. Ter Welle took his mother’s car to a different repair facility for a Maine State Inspection. We don’t know who, where or what the reputation is of the non-Volvo repair facility he brought this car to for an inspection nor did we have the opportunity to verify these claims. Mr. Ter Weele claims they diagnosed $1,900 of exhaust work was needed to pass state inspection. Mr. Ter Weele called Mr. Dietz when Mr. Dietz was out of town. Mr. Dietz called Mr. Ter Weele back upon his return to the office. Mr. Ter Weele informed Mr. Dietz that his mother’s car needed exhaust work, and stated that because Mr. Dietz hadn’t returned his call immediately, he chose to purchase a vehicle from another source rather than do the repairs. Mr. Dietz apologized that he hadn’t been there to help, particularly given the long term positive relationship that they had with the dealership. The conversation was very amicable. Approximately 2 weeks later Mr. Ter Weele called Mr. Dietz back. He opened the conversation with threats, and after repeated threats, Mr. Dietz did raise his voice. When Mr. Ter Weele started using profanities, Mr. Dietz hung up. We are well known in the community for providing great service at competitive pricing. Our staff is highly trained and very courteous. We treat everyone as a family member and not a customer. If we make a mistake, we correct it in a professional, timely manner. We go above and beyond to make the situation right.

This is exactly how I thought this dealership would respond. Mr Dietz needs to retire he is obviously having some timeline issues and memory issues and pehaps hearing problems. As I know he would never lie after all he treats all customers like family.
