It sounds like there may have been either miscommunication or lack of clarification by our staff regarding how and why our advisors quote potential service jobs. I apologize if that was the case as it shouldn’t have been. Our Service Manager would be more than happy to speak with you personally if he can help you in any way. If I may pull back the curtain for a moment and tell you a little about how we operate… Our shop, like many others out there, quotes jobs using Flat Rate Labor. This means we reference detailed Alldata industry labor guides to estimate how long a particular job or repair should take assuming average ability of a Certified Technician. For instance, if GM lists a driveshaft replacement in a particular vehicle should take an estimated 3 labor hours, when our advisor quotes that repair, they use the estimated time of repair and charge that amount to our customers. In this instance, a fresh technician with only a few years of experience may take 5 hours to complete this repair, whereas a 40 veteran may be able to have it done 2. Regardless of either outcome, the same price is charged to the customer, and this price is known before we begin work on a vehicle. This typically benefits owners greatly, as labor guides don’t typically account for unforeseen complications with a job such as rusted or seized bolts for instance, which may add additional time to a repair. Our company employs over a dozen factory trained, GM Certified Technicians, many of which have been with us for decades and who are exceedingly efficient at their specialty platforms. In contrast, for shops that hire basic hourly wage workers, there can be situations where a technician is incentivized to take much longer than needed for repairs since they will make more money by doing so, and any complications can further add time leading to a more expensive repair bill. That is never something you will encounter at Val Ward Cadillac. As a family-owned business serving this area for over 50 years, our goal is to be as transparent as possible in everything that we do and in our internet-age of 2025, we are constantly adapting to remain very competitive with those around us.
