We were shopping online for a Kia and found a nice option - IWEfail
We were shopping online for a Kia and found a nice option at KIA of Covington. We live a few hours away so trying to do as much online/phone as possible. Their website showed a dealer and financing discounts that made the price very attractive. We contacted dealer (Taylor was the salesperson) to get info on trading our current car, submitted all requested info and photos about our trade, and were quoted a trade-in value that would be acceptable to us. We asked for the deal to be sent to us in writing for review, which Taylor promptly did. We were told that Kia of Covington prided itself on simple, honest, upfront transactions so were were optimistic and anxious to get the written quote. Being a number-crunching-nerd, I ball-parked what I thought the quote should look like. When we got the quote, it was about $7400 more that I was expecting. The trade in allowance was wrong, the doc fee was wrong, the sales taxes were wrong, and they added a "window etching" fee and a separate "Government Fee" that I still don't understand. After a few phone calls they adjusted the number to make it "only" $3150 more that we were let to believe/quoted (misled) it would be. What we hoped would be a simple and clean transaction, became very complicated and created mistrust and frustration. My advice? If you are shopping at Kia of Covington, check the numbers, challenge anything that looks wrong, don't let them add any xx charges or fees in the contract. And if you feel yourself getting frustrated, it's time to just walk away. There are other dealers.
