This review is a little about the 2020 Lincoln Corsair I recently purchased, plus some tidbits regarding Ford/Lincoln® that much of the public is unaware of. My sales contact was Donna Spofford, and Chris W recently purchased, plus some tidbits regarding Ford/Lincoln® that much of the public is unaware of. My sales contact was Donna Spofford, and Chris Whaling finalized the financials. Also tip my hat to Digital Sales Consultant, Jill Whitmire who was so pleasant to correspond and speak with as well. Thank you all. This was the most fun and enjoyable experience ever in purchasing a new vehicle. It was like buying from a good friend. The tactical, demeaning sales questions were never present. You know the ones I'm referring to? "We can only hold this price til today." Or, "There are a few others interested in this vehicle". And the famous, "If we can get you this payment, will you take the car?" In fact, we talked more about other common and worldly things besides cars and money. We let the test drives do their talking; and we drove a few vehicles over the course of a couple weeks. The customer care was above and beyond what we've all been accustom to. You were treated with dignity, respect, and most of all, patience. The Corsair is a CUV, compact utility vehicle, and is drop-dead gorgeous inside and out, as are the Navigator and Aviator. It is not an updated MKC, but a fresh and tech infused vehicle. There is enough gadgetry to make a super geek tingle down to their toes. To borrow a word from the Aviator advertisement... it is a sanctuary. Once you are inside, you will not want exit. You will want to drive slow so you don't arrive at your destination too quickly as you soak up the ambiance and solitude that needs to be experienced, because words are not enough. Lincoln made one of the best decisions when replacing the winged grill with the new rich and royal looking grid. The side nameplates are nice touch ala the 40's and 50's era. Putting the nameplates on the front fenders cleans up the rear deck. As your eyes move around the vehicle and across the rear, you may not notice the lack of insignia's and motor size, like 2.0,etc. Very clean, flowing lines and a complimentary sliver of a light bar connecting the slim taillights. Absolutely the best looking vehicle from behind. As you approach the vehicle at night, the welcome and mat lights have a "wow" factor. One last thing, the Vehicle Orientation App. Great videos to learn about all the gadgets and new wrinkles. Let's move on. In 2015 Ford made a monumental decision. They pulled the thorn out of their own foot by abandoning the Microsoft software which powered their My Ford and My Lincoln Touch infotain system, replacing it with Sync®. We do not know the numbers, but it would be a good bet that the majority of service records were for the infotain system. One example is a co-worker of mine had a 2014 Edge and within a year it was in the shop 11 times for the infotain system. Dealerships can only fix mechanical things and tweak computer aided performance issues. They can’t rebuild motherboards, computer chips, or change proprietary software. 2016 was the actual turning point when Sync3® made its debut. This vaulted Ford to the top as having the best infotain system based on ease of use, clarity, and compatibility. It really is a dream to use. So, who is behind Sync3? It is a company that created the first cell phone of which today's phones are modeled after... Blackberry®, who have since merged with a couple other hi-tech companies. If you look up any type of consumer report under the infotain category, Ford is at the top, and depending on who did the survey, they will jockey between first and second with BMW. With the xxxxxx off their back, they could now concentrate on the vehicles. Never liked copycats in the auto industry; I like ingenious and creativity. But some things are worth copying. A few years back, Lexus® debuted their RX350 SUV with the rear wiper tucked under the rear spoiler, and fairly recently, Cadillac® followed suit with their new SUV. The Lincoln Aviator now has this feature and we are told it should trickle down to the rest of the lineup. A great feature, as this also cleans up the look of the rear, can eliminate broken wipers, (how many of these have you seen hanging down?) and it keeps the sun from beating on the rubber and drying it out. One last tidbit. If you liked the suicide doors of the Lincolns from the 60’s, and the Rolls Royce and Bentley, word has it that it may be on table for some future Lincoln’s. Perhaps the MKZ or whatever the new badge will be. So, everything goes in cycles. Lincoln/Mercury, Cadillac and some Buicks ruled the luxury line from the 60’s to the early 80’s. As the imports arrived, the scales tipped. Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus focused on getting more with less and precision assembly. Honda remarked that for the type of driving here, Americans only need a four-cylinder motor. And here we are, driving twin-turbo fours that kick out more horsepower than a ‘68 V8. Import sales devoured the domestics in the 80’s and into the 21st century. I’ve seem, mostly on GM cars, gaps between body panels that you could put your thumb in. When the Chevy Cruze came out, 2012, it was hard to find one where the bumper covers were flush with the fenders. They would protrude from one side or the other and catch your clothes or wash sponge. This is probably the longest review you have ever seen and you may think I work for Ford/Lincoln, but honestly I was just inspired by the Lincoln Way. I’m just an anything-with-wheels-or-wings-and-a-motor kind of guy, who has done everything in the auto industry. Loved cars before I could walk. Thank you Matchbox® and Hot Wheels®. Hopefully you found something intriguing here and that your next purchase will be as enjoyable as this one. More
