Our sales rep was great, and the GTI is incredible. Unfortunately, the rest of the sales experience with City Volkswagen of Highland was horrible, bordering on fraudulent. We live out of state, found t Unfortunately, the rest of the sales experience with City Volkswagen of Highland was horrible, bordering on fraudulent. We live out of state, found this car online, negotiated a price by phone, and then traveled to the dealership to complete the transaction and get the car. When signing paperwork, they insisted we had to pay them the sales tax and license fees, which we've never had to do when buying previous cars out of state. I told them repeatedly that we wanted to do it ourselves when we got home, but they refused to let us do that. The sales tax amount they said we had to pay was at least $1500 too high, which we showed them through an online tax calculator, but they refused to budge and insisted we had to pay the amount they came up with. They said we could apply for a refund from our state if the amount was wrong. When we finally received the title and tags, we took it to our state licensing office, and they confirmed that the dealer charged us too much. However, the license bureau said they did not receive the overage and that the dealer must still have it. When we contacted the dealer's sales manager, he said we would have to apply for a refund from the state. When I explained what the license office told us, he still insisted we have to get a refund from our state. We have official documentation and receipts of everything--what we paid the dealer, what the state license bureau says we should have paid in taxes, what the state actually received from City Volkswagen of Highland, and all the correspondence between everyone. AVOID DOING ANY BUSINESS WITH CITY VOLKSWAGEN OF HIGHLAND, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE OF INDIANA! More
