Came from out of state for a specific car. Upon our arrival, the salesman was ready and wating for us. Was given a fair price for a trade in. Drove out that afternoon with the car we wanted. I originally posted after having issues a week after I purchased a vehicle. I spoke with the salesman who seemed eager to help, specifically mentioning the previous poor review I left. He requested I chan purchased a vehicle. I spoke with the salesman who seemed eager to help, specifically mentioning the previous poor review I left. He requested I change it if they made things right, which I did believing they would. They could not find any codes and dismissed my concerns, recommending I use better fuel, change the spark plugs, use a tuner to disable the AFM, and record videos to help them diagnose things. They repeatedly assured me I would not be left “high and dry”. I left believing their simple fix would work, and that the idle was normal. I continued noticing the sounds and issues getting worse. I recorded videos of the issues and sent them with no response. A month later I tried again and the response led to the manager calling me. He quickly summed-up the situation for me stating that I bought a used truck with 111,000 for $20k, not a $50-60k new truck. I expressed I expected it to run and not have issues at that price, at least for 6 months if not longer. He confirmed it was running, regardless of how well it was running. What I’m observing was discounted because I have not paid another mechanic to diagnose the truck. My observations are a noticeable exhaust smell in and around the cab with metallic rattling, what sounds like marbles rattling around on the driver side of the engine which increases with acceleration, the sound of small pieces of things spinning around the transmission area, it seeming like driving over rumble strips on some inclines, it shudders around 40-45mph, and it idles roughly. I’m very disappointed with the experience and the vehicle. I should have been more concerned when the salesman had trouble getting information about the add-on warranty/maintenance packages, when he seemed to discourage us from getting them but said we could call and add them on the next day if we wanted, when he tried to have us order an extra key and fob from him directly because he “had a buddy that comes up there and cuts their keys” (it was hush-hush, but he could make it happen for cheaper than buying from the dealership he said), his eagerness for me to remove my previous negative review, and how quickly they were willing to dismiss any of my concerns. This may not be accurate for all Byers, but this is well-aligned with what I was told by previous employees when I was discouraged from buying at Byers Toyota in Delaware. More
