They straight up lied about several things throughout the sales process. Summary: they operate like every other used car dealership. Most of these issues are unavoidable no matter where you go, so I hope this gives people a preview of a few things to watch out for when buying a used car. I came in knowing the exact car that I wanted, and I already had financing lined up through my bank. Despite that, the sales team spent over an hour trying to sell me on financing that was horrible compared to what I came in with. I had a low APR, 48 month deal lined up, and I told them I was going with it unless they could beat the APR for the same length of term. They tried to get me to sign for 3% higher APR on a contract that was 3 years longer than my existing loan 😂 and then with a straight face, they repeatedly asked why I didn't want to use their financing. Other things that were annoying/dishonest: - Told me that I MUST purchase GAP insurance by law in Colorado. Their own paperwork states that GAP coverage is optional, and my bank told me that I didn't need it. FYI, if they suck you into GAP coverage and you don't want it - you can cancel it at any time in the future. Just call your bank. - Throughout the process, the salesperson did the classic "let me go back to my manager", "my manager is getting pissed", etc. high-pressure sales tactics when I asked to remove optional fees, upsells, GAP coverage, and more. The salesperson went back and forth at least 4 times and each time took 15-30 minutes. Reminder: I already had financing, and we had already agreed on the price! This should have taken 5 minutes, but took almost 2 hours. - Claimed that my credit score was 80 points lower than it is even though I verified it beforehand through Experian & Equifax. - Added a $600 charge for (I'm still not 100% sure) putting on the license plate frame and cleaning the car, and a warranty for paint + interior that seems worthless from what I've read. I said that I didn't want it and they said it was not negotiable. If you want $600 more per car, just increase the price of the car. This is a classic tactic to avoid bait and switch laws - their sticker price is "lower", but then they have high fees for unsubstantial, unwanted add-ons. I came here because I heard that Echo Park doesn't haggle prices. Turns out, it's worse - they haggle on details that were never negotiable for me in the first place, and they shouldn't be for any savvy buyer. Despite telling them up front that I did not want a warranty, GAP coverage, and many other things that they try to add to a sale. Who on earth would take a higher APR + higher length deal if they do not care about the monthly payment. Insane lol. I know this is how every used car dealership works - just want to let people know what to look out for before they go in :) don't be scared to call dealerships out on their xx More
